6 hits in UK in 60's including a number 1, notched up 11 top 40 hits in States, including two number 1's. last hit there in 71.

Toured UK with The Beatles, they started off as support act but finished tour as headline act, ironically they too recorded this number, who influenced who.

This is another hard one, I'll send off a guess but it's a stab in the dark.

Not any clear idea yet, Roy, but will work on it. (If using books is not illegal). A little teaser there, whether it was the Beatles or the act in question which ended up as tour's headline act--?
Searchers amongst my teenage favourite music. Still fond of them, but earnestly a little puzzled they are considered THIS big! But I'm very excited about this forum, and will love to read it regularly, and also contribute!

My guess is in too, but I am not really sure who it is. I just took a stab in the dark so to speak.
