Aaagggggghhhhhh!!!!

Post by johnallg »

I can't decide!!!

http://www.rondomusic.com/sjb753ts.html with a tortoise pickguard. I'm not sure I'll like the look of the maple fingerboard - a rosewood would look stunning on it.

OR

http://www.rondomusic.com/sjb62bk.html with a black pickguard. Eventually I'd blacken everything.

Hey John,

GET BOTH!

Now you know why I'm in trouble!

Hahahahaha! That would be your solution! cost would not be prohibitive, but I'm running out of room in the practice room. Already the Cheyenne is in the case.

Here's what I'd really like but they are not offering it right now. Minus the covers....

I'm a huge fan of maple fingerboards on 'Fender-style' instruments, John, but I reckon in this case the second one has it all over the first..... the big inlays on the maple fingerboard don't do anything for me either!

Now if you could get the first one with the rosewood fingerboard....... Image

My humble opinion only, of course.......

First one, John, but the ashtray covers would be a must.

Aitch, that is my caveat on the first one too - the big white inlays. Rosewood is what I'd really like...

John - thats the way I'm leaning, but no covers - I've got two Ricks with covers! Image

I'm just having trouble with the large inlays on the maple fretboard...

Any others want to wade in on this?

Tony, didn't you know I have a 4004C?? Walnut heaven.

I think the Jetglo, I mean, black bass is a better looker. I am not a fan of maple fingerboards on sunburst, it just doesn't look correct.

I could always get these two, swap necks and pickguards, and sell the yellow one.

Good idea - plus, you get the ashtray covers and the finger rest too.

Hey, speaking of these, I haven't heard from Charly in a few weeks. Where has he been?

Dunno, I was hoping for his input also. Last I saw from him was a week ago on TalkBass.

Hello...
Been working on this..

Image

More scoop. This body came with a defretted rosewood neck that I swapped (plus cash of course) for this one ! It is now at my repair guy. He is making sure the neck is set right, and will do a P rout in the neck position. I was gonna get the Sx P/J but with ths MIM dealio, I think I may have a "dream" set up! It seems to be calling for a tort guard? Yes? No? I'm also gonna do concentric pots and a three way switch. Maybe use quarter pounders but haven't decided yet.

As far as the Sx go, you can swap between them nicely, but the neck is wider at the body end, which makes for a not too good fit to or from an MIM.

I am now Jonesing for a Jay Turser 54 P! Rave reviews! 130 bucks!

Hey Charly! That neck is gorgeous. And yes, a tort guard would look great on there.
