Hey Melissa,
Is your husband interested in antique Chinese and Japanese coins? My late father was a big collector/dealer and I grew up among those metal things, along with ancient Chinese vases, artcrafts and paintings that he collected. Still got a lot of them in my family's house. Quess I inherited the collector in him and my targets are...yeah, Rickenbackers!

Funny, my wife and I just started a home business a couple of weeks ago. But we are not numismatists. We buy batches of objects in appraisers' sales, or from unsold stocks, then sell them on the Net.

Well, that was just my small uninteresting story...

Paul, Actually my husband does have several ancient Chinese coins, many of which are for sale on his site.... He has many different types, including Wang Mang "spade money," ancient "knife money," and some ancient bronze coinage cast in the shape of fish, as well as ancient coinage made of bone and carved in the shape of cowry shells.... Most fascinating are the small oval-shaped pieces known as "ant nose" money, which according to legend were put into the noses of the dead to keep the ants out (although this has never actually been verified by archaeological evidence--however, I still do not like having to actually handle those particular pieces, LOL!).... My husband knows far more about these and other coins than I do, but I have learned a little just by helping him with the business. Coin collecting is an interesting hobby--it is like holding a little piece of history in your hand (I personally like the Biblical coins, imagine, a silver Denarius of Tiberius Caesar may have passed through the hands of Christ himself!).... Just the age alone of some of the Chinese pieces amazes me, as some of them date back to before 700 BC.... I am always amazed by the prices people will pay for very rare and fine coins (much like guitars, I suppose).... Some of the coins are very beautiful, but I would rather look at Rics any day, and although some silver coins have a nice jingle, they still can't jangle! Although my husband has a beautiful collection of ancient coins, we mainly see the coins as a commodity, unlike the Rics, which are loved and enjoyed by both of us--he loves to hear me play after the children have gone to bed....

JL, Good luck in your home business venture, I don't think it is uninteresting at all.... in fact, I know there is a lot of money to be made in that type of thing, especially if you are dealing in antiques and collectibles. One of the keys to success is to re-invest whatever profits you make back into your business for at least the first couple of years until it becomes well-established.... as your business grows, so should your profits!

Hey guys...doing a little bit of eavesdropping here...My wife and I opened up a booth in a nearby antique mall and are doing very well also! We do reinvest in our inventory, but it also gives me a bit of RIC money to play with

...
It is a hobby we both enjoy doing together and gives us something else to do since we are "empty nesters".....We also do some eBaying together,both buying AND selling... Melissa, sounds like the coin thing is going very well! What a great way to keep your RIC "JONES" going!!

JL---do you sell from a website, or is this an eBay thing? Just interested to see what you have for sale....

Chris, yes, we continue to be amazed by the success of the coin business--we really see it as a blessing! However, we probably won't be buying any more Rics for a while, as we will be breaking ground on a big home remodeling project in a couple of weeks (I'm really excited about this, as I will get a dedicated music room and a brand new kitchen out of this deal!).... Although we will still keep an eye open in case my "dream Ric" comes along!
