There are very clearly-visible walnut wings under the original FG finish on this Jan 1970 4001:

the dark wings and elongated headstock,so reminiscent of classic 60's-era ricks, were 2 of the more upfront stylin' ques that brought on my lust/purchase of my cii. now that i have played it,i can add the incredible sounding pickups and even the beefier neck are things i love about it!

WOW - John, that is an amazing headstock! You are right - they built it out of contrasting maple, and in late 72 no less! I know you have been complimented many times on how rare that bass must be, to be built like that. So add one more puny compliment from me to that tall stack :D That is a gorgeous RIck

Thank you, Elys. I was just lucky to be in the right place at the right time. With the exception of the pickguard screws (I still have the originals) the bass is factory original.

John, I need your wing from the G-D side of your headstock to go with the opposing one on my headstock!

What, he's going to pop it off and mail it?

Guess that means he has to send you the entire bass, right Jeffrey?

I know RIC TRCs are hard to get but is there somewhere that they sell the vintage style 4001 TRCs like John added to his 4003?

Jeff's right, unfortunately. Keep one eye on eBay for these to pop up.

If you have a standard white molded TRC, I believe you can still trade it to RIC (plus come cash) in exchange for a plexi one like the one i've got here.

Once again you have changed your avatar, from a pancake with ears to a orange coelenterata on a blue background :!:

Is there is a hidden message in this to decipher.... like Macca's bare feet on the Abbey Road cover?
