Captain Beefheart 1966
Re: Captain Beefheart 1966
At this stage the "general population" could relate to his tunes. I saw him at a showcase event in the 70's that featured Frank Zappa, Linda Ronstadt as well as Capt B'heart...When he came on much of the audience went out to grab a smoke as they could not handle his "free jazz" if you will style..kinda funny in a way as many came to see Frank...
Reverb set to stun !!

I love the good Cap'n. Still drawing from the Blues during this time period - as was everyone else - as this Bo Diddley cover shows, but it was only a year or so later that he really started to find his own voice. IMHO, his best record he ever made was Shiny Beast. All the others pale in comparison from that period, although there are little gems to be found on a lot of those LPs, but for me, Shiny Beast was the most consistant in terms of material. I'll never forget seeing him with the Magic Band on Letterman when Ice Cream For Crow came out - classic Beefheart all the way.

I've been listening to "Bongo Fury" a lot, lately. Yes, the Captain was a breath of fresh fish. With peanuts.
Here is where I hide my music:

I saw Beefheart at the Troubador club in LA around the early 70s . Soon as they came on stage I realized where Jethro Tull got their "look" . Ian Anderson was a Beefheart fan . The image worked better for Tull $$$$.
It's too early in the morning to talk about our relationship !
