Seeing an awful lot of Rics with new Brit bands!

Post by basse »

Just saw the Klaxons show last night here in Toronto and they used a white 4003 all night. They follow the Arctic Monkeys, The Editors and more who seem to be all over Ric basses. Good performance and some great songs. I have to say that it's one of the few releases I've heard recently where I can put it on and listen from start to finish. Cool!

Couple of questions:

1) The Klaxons play with a pick and have some processing on the bass that really makes it sound interesting... Anyone have any idea what they might be using - it couldn't be seen from the floor.

2) Any idea why there seems to be a sudden resurgence of Brit bands using Ric basses?

I see a lot of bands everywhere jumping back into Rick basses, not just UK or Canada. Don't know about the processing, haven't heard them.

I know I'm using mine with my new band. It's sort of a Jangly girl-fronted edge pop kinda band. It really fits the vibe well.

It never fails too when I play a Rick live how many people tell me how well it cuts through.

I have also seen them out there a lot lately. Caught the Editors on Leno a couple weeks and I think they all had Ricks.

Can't speak for the album but whenever I've seen them live on tv (eg Glastonbury) he's just used a mass of distortion.

Wasn't it us Brits who made people sit up and recognise Rics in the first place? You know, what were they called....something to do with insects...
