Midnight Blue Finish

Just seeing pictures of various models in MID hooked me, and I wasn't disappointed when the 360 MID arrived.
And I think I'll sign out and go play it.

Ummmm.... If it were any darker, it would probably be Jetglo, LOL!

I'd love to see a Midnight Blue so dark, it would look like Jetglo until you got it in the right light - Just like the DCMs.

You'll be pleased to know that it still 'purrs' beautifully, John. I haven't played "him" for a while (been playing Ricks and a couple of other "cats" lately) so I gave "him" a setup and a new set of Super Bullet 'paws' yesterday before band practice. An awesome "cat" indeed.......

Brian Medway is coming over in late November and he can't wait to get his mits on "him"!!

Elys, are you sure there's NO metallic in that early MID finish? I thought that MID always had a bit o' flake in it...in the picture, it sure looks a bit iridescent...

I took it out in a good 500W halogen, and into the sunlight, and into a 10,000 Kelvin designer high-brightness fluorescent, and there are absolutely zero sparklies, even fine-ground to the point of pearlescence, in the finish.

Of course, I may have the darkest of the dark anomalous example of early MID, but this one's got nothin for sparkle. Don't get me wrong, it is a gorgeous opaque color, and one would expect that especially of a BT, plus it is a great player - good tone and supple action, very compliant when stretching out to widely-spaced chord-fingerings. Ask Melibee, she gets to take credit for this gorgeous guitar, not me - she graced me by selling it to me!

Hey JB remember that 620 MID we saw in NYC? We couldn't tell if it was JG or MID until he took it down and showed us up close, it was a really dark MID.

Thanks for all the replies. The 330 arrived today, and the finish looks great. It changes depending on the light, and the angle the light hits the finish.

Sorry about the lighting, as I don't have a flash camera on me at the moment. I do love how it almost resembles a JetGlo in this shot, though.

I have two more questions.

There is some foam padding around the pickups. They seem to be coming apart a little bit, and a lot of dust and debris is coming out from it. Am I supposed to leave the foam on, or should I remove it? Here is a shot of the padding in question. Sorry if it is a bit blurry, but I'm using my cell phone's camera.

My other question is the Vintage Rickenbacker Strap that is sold on the RIC website. I purchased one, but the holes don't seem to fit the strap locks on the guitar, as they are too small, and the leather doesn't evenly go around the strap locks. Do I need to break them in?

Others who have far more expertise will certainly chime in, but the foam padding is supposed to be under the pickups so don't remove it. It's a little hard to tell from the picture, but the foam appears to be a lighter color than it is normally. I don't know if that's just the camera or the lighting, but if the pads are deteriorating somehow, and the "dust and debris" are pieces of foam, then call Kenny at RIC Customer Service.

Lunawolf: Keep the foam where it is. These pads are easily replaced and inexpensive, so if they have deteriorated just order some more.
