Best strings for me to use

Post by heptagram »

I have a '01 4003 MG and have the bass tuned to D and was wanting some opinions on what strings I should possibly use? Brand, Gauge, etc... I'm intersted in trying flat wounds out, but would that be a bad move due to playing Death Metal and tuned to D? Should I stick with round wound? I'm getting a brand new '07 4003 MID, so I'll have to use the same on it as well, unless I keep that one tuned to E.

You might want to try med gauge Fender flatwounds or maybe even the Labella James Jamerson set. Both are heavy strings that should stay nice and taut tuned down to D which is what I would assume you would want. You may have to widen the grooves in the nut though especially for the Labellas.

Death Metal ....dont you need growl for that kind of music ? I would think you would use roundwounds . My son played metal and always used the heavyest roundwounds he could get . 50-110 .
It's too early in the morning to talk about our relationship !

Thanks for that mate! I'll check into them :) Thought I would try something different and go flatwounds :)

Flats work for Steve Harris from Iron Maiden. The Rotosound gauge 50-110 are good for drop D tunning tried them once as i had a Billy Sheehan phase and liked the sound he got from heavier strings.
