Of course ... I'm jealous. I've never played a Ric like that through a Vox, so, apparently, I don't know what heaven sounds like

Oh, you must know what heaven sounds like, because your clean 12-string jangle on the title track of your CD sounds angelic to me....

Thanks for the plug ! You have been very kind to me, Melissa. I'm about halfway through the new CD, although not much Rickenbacker yet, mostly acoustic so far.

Melissa, I just got an AC-30 (thanks, Dr. Who), and tarnation if all my guitars, but specially my Ricks (6's and 12's), don't sound extra wonderful!

Wonderful indeed.... but the only drawback I'm finding is that it's a bit LOUD! When the volume is above 2, the windows start to rattle--it's waaaaay too powerful for me to use at church; it would totally overpower all of the other instruments and vocals, and maybe damage a few hearing aids in the congregation!

But it sure is cool-sounding!

BTW, Steve, I'm looking forward to hearing your new CD--let us know when it's available. I will want one!

I thought about you yesterday, Melissa, when I was at my guitar shop (Willcutt). My Rickenbacker 1997SPC/VB will ALWAYS be my number one guitar -but I thought I would play some Gretsch models whilst I was there. 6120 double cut left me cold. BUT I plugged a 6122 '58 into a Fender amps and instantly fell in love.

Three different people came to investigate the source of those tones. I found myself wondering how to justify the $2800. The mix of gold and silver on that model is unforgiveable, but the sounds and playability almost made me overlook this quirk.

The TV Jones pickups atop that curvaceous body generated brilliant, rich tones with aplomb. Wow.

I could easily imagine a Gretsch in my fold again.

Bet the 6122 sounded great--I guess I wouldn't call the silver and gold color scheme "unforgivable," but then you're the guy that doesn't like purple Rics, either!

I love the looks and sound of those big-bodied Gretsches, but don't think I could do them justice, since I'm really just a rhythm player, although I've been working harder lately on improving my lame attempts at leads, LOL! Would love to hear one of those through the AC30. In the hands of someone who could really play it like it's meant to be played.

Just spent the last 2 1/2 hours playing my 615 and my 12-string through the AC30.... And got a chance to plug the 12'er into the Janglebox, too. My ears are happily ringing with the beautiful noises!

It was December 22, 2006. Last minute Christmas shopping. Why not go for broke - literally? My son admired George Harrison and had done research on the Country Classic (at the time the equivalent of the Country Gentleman - since discontinued, but that's another story). I figured, oh what the hell, and went to MF, who I knew had one in stock.
They brought it out and I plugged in to some kind of Marshall amp, I believe. Mind you, this is a guitar I would never have selected. Anyway, I played a few moments and, noting this was a Japanese-made guitar, thought "Well, it seems ok."
I then switched to a Fender amp, and a few people came by and started asking about the guitar. Trust me, it was not my playing that aroused their interest. I thought, "Not a bad guitar." Played about 20 minutes longer and thought "All right, now I want this guitar!" Typical episode of G.A.S. (guitar aquisition syndrome).

Hey, I'm happy to see this thread revived, as the same friends I wrote about when I started it are coming for a visit this weekend.... I am so looking forward to it, and since I am going to have my recording gear out this week anyway, I am hoping we can get a few tracks down while they're here! Stay tuned--I'm hoping we can make some clips worth posting!

I know, I know.....piling on rather late (recent registrant). I dig my Gretsch G6120 TSP Duo Jet. It's a faithful recreation of the late Mr. Harrison's Duo Jet, admittedly his first good guitar.
