Azureglo

Post by jps »

A friend of mine came over this evening with his '81 AZ 4001, whose jackplate has the chrome plating rubbed off and rusted in the area of the serial number, the letter area is fine so we can see the UB just fine. The numbers are totally gone so I removed the pickguard hoping to maybe find the number in one of the cavities. No such luck as the cavities are all solidly painted. Is this normal for AZ? I was hoping it would be more like that in my July '73 4001 as shown below.

Any solid-finish I owned had the writing in the caavity masked off before spraying. You can see the outline of the masking tape around the writing.

That's what I thought, but this bass does not look it has been refinished, with the exception of the cavities. I will have to investigate further. I was nice enough to offer my friend $50.00 for it. :)
