I think the factory is safe do to location.

Does anyone know if John or Ben live in the path of the fires?

Don't know. It's a little better today as far as the winds, and the air's not as sooty or smelly around here. The winds are predicted to drop and temperatures are expected to drop twenty degrees, which should help fight the fires. Yesterday the sky had an ugly yellowish tint to it, my eyes felt as though they'd been dipped in sand, and I felt like I was breathing through a dirty ash tray. This is the worst I remember fires being. My 83-year old dad is of this opinion as well. I've seen more ash fall before, but the air was REALLY bad this time-just chock full of gritty ash and dust from the winds, as well as smelly and smokey.

Isn't that normal? It sure seemed that way when I lived in Mar Vista in the '80s.

I hope all of you down there make it out okay.

Just the opposite for me. Despite all of the fires, I had blue skies above and clean air... until today. It was like an eclipse was going on... I could see the sun, but it wasn't very bright out. And the aroma of smoke was finally noticeable. At dusk, the moon had an orange-y tint to it.

Very funny. I meant an ugly yellowish tint relative to what it USUALLY is. Besides. I live near the coast, so the sky usually looks pretty nice and blue to my eye.

Pual - I grew up in Long Beach. My mom is still there close and enough to the beach so she is OK because of the breeze. I still called because there is always remnants from these disasters -- in this case -- the smoke. They have been advised to keep the windows closed.

For all you So. Cal. forumites -- I wish the best for you and your families! I'm praying for 'ya!
