For me-
1
2
4
3
I don't really care for the song that much in the first place, although the one I am most familar with (V.1) was done beautifully, I am also somewhat familiar with version 4, but I can't stand version 3. Guess it's because it sounds to new!

Well I think me and Bob differ on this one. I happened to have heard this on the radio the other day and thought, wow I forgot how beautiful this song was, arrangement, song itself, lyrics etc. The writer-arranger is also very talented. I am familiar with three of these singers and found it extremely difficult to pick an order as they all sound great to me, different but great. I have to pick an order and this is it, on a different day I may have picked a different one:
1.
4.
3.
2.
1.
4.
3.
2.

Re: botv10
Now, see, I'm almost the opposite. My vote would be 3, 4, 2, 1. The background vocals on #1 just don't do it for me.
Ka is a wheel.

Re: botv10
Roy's gonna hate me for this, messing up his calculation system - but:
JOINT winners, 2 and 4
next, number 1
and last, number 3
It's true that sentiment, and/or knowing the version, plays a strong part in all this. Sometimes the version you know best, or knew first, just HAS to be the favourite - and sometimes you can't stand it any more! Equally, though I don't think I ever heard version 4 before, I'm pretty sure I know who it is, and that influences me too... No idea who version 3 is, but sorry... not my taste!

1,3,2,4 for me Roy. Perhaps when the results are announced we could all have the benefit of knowing what Clough thinks too.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Re: botv10
Also tracks I am posting may not necessarily be favourites of mine just ones I have more than one version of.
Any way to answer Peter's point my own choice would be
version 2 - simply because arrangement stronger
version 4 - better vocally
version 1 - lacks the intensity of 2
version 3 - performed well but for me doesn't work.
What I do enjoy about this bit of fun and thanks to all who take the trouble to take part, is to read other's views, may not agree with them but creates a interesting topic.

Re: botv10
Thanks Roy. It is almost a truism that we tend to prefer those songs with which we are most familiar. Sometimes different arrangements can win the day. Twist and Shout by The Beatles would be one classic example. I have always been taken by the fact that it only takes a single instrument or background voice sometimes to put me off a song altogether. We are creatures of habit and when faced with something new, often times we don't readily accept it, even though it may be better than the original in the end. Music teaches us many lessons, we just have to listen.

Re: botv10
Now where's the table formatting button here?
Version #2 - well, the only one i've heard before, no surprise.
Version #3 - like the arrangement; the only reason why i didn't put it on top is that the vocals sound annoying to my ear.
Version #1 - nice, but doesn't have the same appeal to me as #2 and 3.
Version #4 - didn't like that one at all. BTW, the performer's name is shown on my media player. And no, that wasn't the reason i put it at the bottom of my list.

Re: botv10
Not as many played as previous weeks but probably closest battle we have had.
Song Anyone Who Had A Heart
Version 1 Dionne Warwick (Hit version in US)
Version 2 Cilla Black (Number 1 in UK)
Version 3 Cliff Richard and Dionne Warwick (Album version)
Version 4 Dusty Springfield (Album version)
Result based on your votes
Cilla Black 2.86
Dusty Springfiled 2.59
Dionne Warwick 2.55
Cliff/Dionne 2.00
4 members each chose Cilla or Dionne as their favourite
1 member had a joint favourite Cilla & Dusty
One member chose Cliff and one Dusty
Score is based on average with 4 for a number 1 3 for a number 2 etc.
The points we made about the first version you hear being the one you probably go for as favourite was very true here.
All votes for Cilla as favourite were from those in UK or Europe Votes for Dionne were from US /Canada.
Sorry to sound boring just like analysing results.

Re: botv10
I'm surprised I picked Cilla Black as last place, she had a big hit song here that I really liked, forgot the name of it though. I think it was You are My World or something like that.
