2007 GIBSON EPIPHONE DOT 355 STUDIO
Look what I just won! Look out Alvin! I have a set of Pearly Gates clones, but they may be too hot for a semi-hollow? I was gonna build an SG, but this is cool too.....

Charly,
Agree, these are truly great guitars for the money as we've discussed back when this used to be in the "Other" section.
Remember, I provided a link to a photo slide show of the new Epi factory in China where these are made.
And, I don't wish to rain on your parade but you do know that the Cherry is only $249 brand new and widely available. And the Brown (which I have) is only $199.

ARGH! YOU'RE DRUMMER IS BLEEDING FROM THE NECK!!!
Also, your bassist doesn't seem to understand whats going on...
Dot's a cool, It's on the wishlist if I don't become a mega rockstar and can't afford a Gibson!

For a long time, I was kinda bummed that my 335 wasn't a real Gibson, even though with the new pickups and Bigsby it was an absolutely killer guitar, and probably better than a new "real" 335. Over time, i've come to prefer that it be an Epiphone!tennis_nick wrote:Dot's a cool, It's on the wishlist if I don't become a mega rockstar and can't afford a Gibson!

It's gonna go straight to Eric to put the GFS Fat Paf Boutique Humbuckers in it. I'm thinking of split coil functionality or somesuch also.......... I could always do the Alvin Lee thing to it and add a Strat pup between 'em!!
I knew it was close to new price, but I'm thinking it may be setup better..... If not, no big deal..... I have more fun doing ebay than going to a store, or buying straight from an online store. I don't know why.

Oh, absolutely possible Charly. I don't know if you remember my postings about my Dot Studio shopping. Though I love the guitar, I had to go through about four or five of them at my local GC (in two separate trips) to find one in decent shape.
One had a broken string (not a big deal, but just the principle). One had no sound coming out of it. (?) One had a knob missing and one had a rough fret edge or two sticking over the side.
I guess when they're just zooming through them at the factory some are bound to not pass 'quality control.'

Yeah, I remember. I really liked the WildKat stuff too. But I have a soft spot for Alvin Lee, and I can't afford the sig model!!!!!!!!
On another note, is it possible to put a Bigsby on that thing? It seems to me you will leave the old bridge "tracks".

It will indeed leave the old holes. They don't bother me none!charlyg wrote: On another note, is it possible to put a Bigsby on that thing? It seems to me you will leave the old bridge "tracks".

Very acceptable!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: 2007 GIBSON EPIPHONE DOT 355 STUDIO
A dumb question, or two..... It looks like it will be hard to replace the pups without taking it to a shop. How do you unsolder and solder the new pups? Is there a connection close to the pups? It looks VERY difficult otherwise.....

Hey JB, I have this outrageous idea that I should try flats on the Dot. Whatcha think?
Re: 2007 GIBSON EPIPHONE DOT 355 STUDIO
I got the Epi today, and the nimrod shipped it with the strings completely loose, then this nimrod started to tune on the skinny string, broke it, and went and got some D'Addario Nickel Steel 11-49 strings. It sounds great but there are a couple of issues. The little clamp thingy that holds the wires away from the F-hole came off You can feel the glue vut I can't reach where I need to with my fingers, so I stuffed the wires as far away from the hole as I could reach. I thought it would be a little louder unplugged. I guess that solid middle is what limits that. It does have the vibe tho! I won't get the Deluxe 85 til Friday at the earliest, it left Georgia today. That'll put it through its paces. I've also looked at some Gibson 355s and this is not a 355, it is a 335. I thought it was different because of the 2 knobs instead of 4 but I found a Gibson 335 with two knobs just like mine , so there ya go.I was wondering why you guys kept calling it a 335............D'oh!
Dang stupid bass players!

Re: 2007 GIBSON EPIPHONE DOT 355 STUDIO
My bud at work BIll, who gigs 3-5 nights a week as a jazz guitarist, came up and gave it a work out and he made it sing! I guess the setup is fine. I have these extra GFS pups that may open up the tone some, but having a hard time deciding whether or not to wait. I need to find a blues guy so I can hear it wail on some blues. Everyone who has seen or picked it up loves it, and can;t believe wht I paid for it!!!
Life is good.
I am now ready to look for folks to join my yet to be Gospel Blues Band. I wanted to have this guitar and the Fender Deluxe 85 in case a guitarist would need it (also for home recording). I am hoping for 2 guitars, keyboard/harmonica, drums, and me on bass.

Hey JB, what do you think about me getting a black Bigsby to go with all the black trim, tuners, etc? I'm torn between a regular or a black one.
