California Wildfires

Post by squid »

The news about these fires is starting to hit the international press in a big way today. It sounds like a terrible situation, to say the least. For my own peace of mind, I just wanted to put a post up asking if everyone's alright. I know we have quite a few California-based posters here -- Paul, John, Ben, Kenny, to name just a few. I hope everyone's doing okay.

And what about the RIC building? Anywhere close?

The RIC building is in the Santa Ana concrete jungle, Mark. Unless some embers got under the roof they'd be OK.

Where i live is a few miles from the Witch Creek fire started, (Ramona). Most of the town evacuated. I packed up my basses, and amps in my car ready to go.
So far we're fine in my area, but the other side of town lost many homes.
The fire split in two directions and literally went around us on both sides.
Incredible amount of lost homes, but fortunately very few casualties.
It's not over yet.

No problems for me, except for the smoke in the air (cough cough).

For the first time since Sunday, I can actually see some blue sky.

Welcome back, Gary!

Good to hear everyone is ok! My family lost our home back in the Ash Wednesday bushfires of 1983. It covered nearly 3 Australian states at the time, absolutely devastating!
At least you were just seeing smoke Joey, not flames! Stay safe everyone over there!

The other Paul here. Ugly skies, smelly air, dust, ash, soot everywhere, but nothing worse here in Long Beach. Thank goodness that the winds died down yesterday and the temperature cooled off today. There was even some fog this morning.

To paraphrase Maxwell Smart, "The fires missed us by that much". In this case "that much" was a mile and a half.

With so many forumites spread around that whole area, it is great to hear no one was caught in the fires. Good news indeed.
