Moding a 2003 4003

Post by jazzstick »

I am jonesing for a ric and I might be able to find a 2003 4003 for a great price. However, I love the feature on the new ricks with the vintage tone. can a 2003 be moded to do the same and what would it take?

Hi Brett! Well, you just need to buy the treble volume potentiometer itself with the DPDT switch in it, for $9.50 from the RIC website Boutique: Sku: 07346 http://www.rickenbacker.com/cart.asp?ca ... lectronics , and it is currently available to order. Replace your existing pot with it and rewire according to the RIC schematic for a modern 4003, also found on their website: http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/19507.pdf and you just wire the DPDT switch to switch the 0.0047 cap in and out of series. (With the switch one way, the cap is in series, with the switch in the other position, the cap is shorted and the wire goes straight to the selector switch.)
