Do you really want to buy from a company that laid off most of it's US workforce in it's move overseas?

The product looks the same, though I haven't tried playing through any; there are some Nampegs at my local Sam Ash and Guitar Centers. I have read of some issues with modern Chinese products due to bad quality solder, hopefully Nampegs won't be like that. Over at Talkbass, most of the members are not happy at all about the situation, and one member used to work for Ampeg here in the US; he has not much good to say about Loud Technologies (LT), who owns Ampeg.

A good friend of mine in Columbus bought one of those Mackie (now owned bt LT) Onyx mixers and it was junk. He is used to quality stuff like Ward/Beck, Soundcraft, etc. He dumped it and bought an Allen & Heath mixer and couldn't be happier now.

To tell you the truth Ampegs have never been the same since Magnavox shut them down in 1979. I wouldn't buy from a company which layed off it's US work force to get cheap help somewhere else anyway.

Ace Ventura,,,gotta love it.

I was just wondering,, it was such a hot topic for a long time,, you just dont here much about it anymore... I dont think the Markbass stuff could have been timed any better.

One of the guys that I share a rehearsal space with recently bought a SVT-VR head and matching SVT-810AV cabinet. He paid about $3000 for them and they look really great. Sound-wise, I wasn't too impressed. I thought my Ashdown MAG combo sounded better for 10% of the cost.

Is that a slight exaggeration Erik? I have played new Ampeg SVT-CL's through new 8 x 10 Ampegs cabs which are just about the same thing as the one you mentioned and while they don't sound quite as good as the older ones, they still do blow just about anything else away that I've used or heard, which may be why you see them on stages all around the world.

Not everybody likes the sound of Ampeg SVT's....me included. Tone is subjective and all in the ear of the listener. Just because most everyone else uses them doesn't make them right for everybody. If that was the case then we'd all be playing Jazz basses.

Not everyone knows how to properly setup an SVT either. They can sound pretty ****** adjusted wrong.
