1966 335 Back in Action!

Post by rkbsound »

I've just figured out how to post pictures (I'm not too bright), but I thought I'd share some pics if I can figure out how to do it of my '66 335. It's seen better days, but I just had it worked over and it sounds better than it ever has. Today's work included two new frets (1 and 2) and some bridge adjustments (it was never really set up right). It has a couple of cracks, as well, that have been repaired. - Jeff.

No arm? I use it a lot and couldn't imagine playing without it. I love mine, also a '66 335 FG. Checked intonation yesterday for the first time in years and it's perfect- I've never had any guitar that holds pitch so well. I recently added a '68 335 JG and though it needs a setup that neck is even slimmer! Though I paid more for it than I wanted to, I believe a Rick 335/335 from the '60s is the best value out there. If you haven't played a '60s Rick guitar they're an entirely different animal than a current production item. Two marvellous guitars.

Nope - no arm! It didn't come with one when I bought it used in 1985. I am thinking about getting one if I can find the right one at a reasonable price, but it makes nervous to think about actually using it! I'm glad you like yours, though!

Glad to see you have a great guitar back in playing order. These guitars sound great when set up right. I have a 66 335 Fireglo also. It is currently being brought back to life and will share some pics at a later date. Are your pickguards painted on the back or are they solid color guards?

I don't know if the bottom guard is original or not, but I don't think it is painted. The top guard is new, and was made by a forum member here maybe 5 years ago -- just got it put on now! I have a second upper guard that is signed by Pete Best, and that is on my bulletin board above my desk.
