Speaking of V9s...

Am is enjoying a resurgence lately, all I use is an old 100 lb. DX-100, it's a CW-AM rig from the 50's, but it really gets out, is about 120-130 watts on AM. You should get your General it's simple now as long as you know your theory, AM is fun and 99% of the ops use tube gear. I have a bunch of old boatanchor receivers I use, all tube. 388, 390's, 390A's, SP-600, HQ-180, HRO 50's and 60's, SX-28A's etc. on and on.

I know someone who has all her husbands old ham gear from when he died 13 years ago. Bunch of Hallicrafter and other really nice stuff....most old tube stuff. She wants to get rid of it, but isn't sure what works and what doesn't and doesn't want to pay someone a bunch of money to check it all out. I'm sure she'd be willing to sell some of it though at some point. I want to get a Hammond B3 and Leslie from her along with some old tube hi-fi stuff so I'm keeping her location secret until I've got that.

ugh. threads like this make me hate the fact that I still use all six of my NOS magnavox power tubes in my '71 SVT. I assume it was tubed with them in the 80's..and I know they weren't used for a whole decade.
granted, I might use the amp 30 hours a year, TOPS. mainly just for recording and gigs that I feel like going balls out for. I have my vintage solid state amps to cover the grounds the rest of the time.

It's probable they are still good, they were good tubes in the first place. You might want to find someone with a good tube tester though. Make sure they are biased right too. I have a late 70's B-15S, it had the opriginal Magnavox 7027A's in it, they worked ok but tested weak although I have keot them, I replaced them with some NOS RCA 7027A's. It still has some original Magnavox tubes in it that work OK. Preamp tubes last a lot longer than power tubes however.
