Need a Flight Case for my 4003 (Melbourne)

Post by heptagram »

I have some gigs coming up in Sydney, Brisbane and Adeliade and need a flight case for my 4003 as I don't know if the OHSC (molded) will be 100% safe for flights... I would die if anything happend to my RIC! So does anyone here in Melbourne know where I can get a hold of a flight case?

Cheers!

The flight won't hurt it but the baggage handlers will...

Hi Josh.

I had a flight case made for my RTW trip in '06. I paid through the nose because I bought it through a music store and after taking my 330 over for a measure up was told I could have dealt direct with them and saved a bucket!

Call George at Transitpack Cases - 9 Merchant Avenue Thomastown - 9464 2515. The guy I dealt with was the owner - George.

Cheers,

Aitch

Thanks heaps for that mate! I'm going to go with them to have the flight case made :) Still going to cost a bit, but worth it :)

It sure is, Josh!

My pleasure to be able to assist. When I was over there he showed me some of his stuff. He'd just finished a case for a large set of tubular bells! Each tube bell had its own strengthened foam rod to slip over and the dismantled frame sections mounted in separate compartments around the centre core where the bells were stored. Bloody amazing!!

Hope the case and the gigs all work out well for you.

Cheers!

I've flown a couple of times with my 2006 AFG 4003 in its original SKB case without trouble. I did put a note in the strings for the TSA inspectors kindly reminding them to make sure the latches are properly closed, and I've both gate-checked it and checked it with the baggage.

Actually, I should say, flying back from Santa Barbara a couple of months ago, I checked my 4003 with the baggage and was MIGHTILY alarmed when it didn't arrive with the rest of the luggage in Seattle! After a major panic attack, and a long wait in a long line it turned out that security in Seattle thought the case might be loaded with GUNS so they set it aside. MAN, don't DO THAT! The inspectors are allowed to open up your luggage in Santa Barbara - so why not in Seattle? Anyway, sorry for the tangent, this experience had nothing to do with the case.
