But you are right, over 40% off on a Gibson like this makes it a good buy indeed...

It's changed to a microphone now.
Re: Oops!Missed this "Stupid Deal"
And a VERY nice mic too at a ridiculously-low price! This one was a bargain at $180, but it is amazing at $60. I just bought 3. This thing is flat down to 10 Hz - a bass player's dream transparent condenser. You just need a shock-isolating stand.jdogric12aolcom wrote:It's changed to a microphone now.
Usually these Stupid Deals on MF stink. Not this time!

Those CAD 177's are a really sweet mic. They don't suffer from the hyped top end that alot of the chinese manufactured condensers have.

In this day of NAFTA and CFTA and SHAFTA, it is nice to be able to buy an American-made microphone product - from Ohio!
Just like it is nice to still be able to buy American-made Ricks from California

Re: Oops!Missed this "Stupid Deal"
My go to vocal mic's are a CAD M9 Tube condenser and a Shure SM7. One or the other work on just about anyone. Both of which I got for stupid cheap on e-bay.
CAD makes some really nice stuff.

I passed by the RIC factory yesterday while running some errands. Even though it's appearance is not much different from the other industrial buildings on the block, it makes me happy to know its there when I drive by it.elysrand wrote:In this day of NAFTA and CFTA and SHAFTA, it is nice to be able to buy an American-made microphone product - from Ohio!

The stupid deal that I original posted here was this SG special with EMG's and deluxe gigbag for $599.Pretty good deal I thought.

Re: Oops!Missed this "Stupid Deal"
CAD is just up the lake from Cleveburg, in Conneaut; a good friend of mine was going to take a job with them years ago but the commuter drive in winter stopped that idea.elysrand wrote:In this day of NAFTA and CFTA and SHAFTA, it is nice to be able to buy an American-made microphone product - from Ohio!
Are you sure these inexpensive CAD mics are made in Ohio? I have a feeling these are of Chinese origin.
Re: Oops!Missed this "Stupid Deal"
I will tell you for sure when they arrive. The lady I spoke to today at CAD told me that this particular model was definitely made in Ohio. Seems that there are other models being sold or introduced, however, that are not. She gave me the specific statement that at least part of the reason for the sale most likely was a Marketing promo "clearing the resale channel for a new model line they are particularly proud to introduce that may, in an effort to further enhance repeatable quality and performance, contain at least some parts made overseas to their own precision specs", in her carefully tactful wording.jps wrote:Are you sure these inexpensive CAD mics are made in Ohio? Well, CAD can mean Conneaut Audio Devices or Chinese Audio Devices! Take your pick. I am on the market for a mic to do triple duty in micing my bass or guitar amp or acoustic guitars for recording purposes for not a lot of money. I have been thinking of the Sennheiser e609 as a strong possibility.
Re: Oops!Missed this "Stupid Deal"
The sennie is not as good a performance vs. price unit, although Sennheiser has a good name and good product support.jps wrote:Well, CAD can mean Conneaut Audio Devices or Chinese Audio Devices! Here is the link to a review about the 100% Conneaut-made M1777. http://www.rwonline.com/reference-room/ ... ne20.shtml It is flat from 10 Hz to 20kHz. Comes with its own integral basket-type isolation mount. List price of $249 and street price to $170 to $190, so the $60 price was a killer deal...
The Sennie is more like 40Hz to 18kHz, retails for $199, and does not come with an integral isolation basket mount. It is a good mic, no question. I would buy it hands down before buying an M177 if it were not for the $60 price
