Great score, Graham! Congrats!

Yep, looks like someone threw a V63 nut on there. I think you're neck should be a mm or two more narrow than a V63 nut. I think the string spacing is a little wider on the V63 nut as well. You might want to have Dale make you a new one. He has the original material.

The bass looks well-loved with a ton of honest player wear. I'll bet it plays and sounds great.

Ted Staberow's Deluxe '63 4001FG looks just like it with the same swirly inlays. I think Ted's has the chrome-top knobs, but I'm not positive.

Not so sure, Wes. I just shot him an email with a link to this thread though. Thought he'd be interested in seeing Graham's new bass.

Ted has been "distracted" by family, work, and other interests. He shall return one day when things settle down.

We all have family, work, and other interests. I thought this was the distraction!

Sorry, you are correct. It is the right way round - that is if you are looking in the mirror when you are playing it.

Howard, I went 'down South' a couple of weeks ago. Never again, it was full of... err... Southerners!

Graham - that is incredible! See if you can contact Ted Staberow on the particulars. I haven't heard from him on the forum for a long time but he also has a magnificent '63 4001.

What's really cool about these old 60's ricks is thinking back to the times when they were created and the music from that time. I was too young to appreciate it like I do with the 70's era when I was a teenager. I guess that's why I have a thing for those 73 ricks, that was more of "my time" than these antique ricks that I can't really afford to pursue. Tens years from now mine will be there.
Hey, that's my birthday too! Got you on the age though Mark, I'm 44 this Monday. Not that it's anything to shout about, especially when I have a mental age of 14....

BTW, that is one stunning instrument Graham!

Shaun, that is the one thing I've accomplished from all made plans when I was a wee youngster - that I would never act my age!!
