Horseshoe polepieces adjustable?

Post by marcinkus »

I'd like to know if someone tried to adjust the polepieces in a horseshoe pickup, since D and A strings are louder than the other two.

my 1968 horseshoe pickup had screw top pole pieces ... I assume they would go up and down

If you drop it a little the sound will probably even out more, also you can file the E and G slots on the bridge a little to drop the strings down a little closer to the pole pieces in relation to the A and D, I've done that on a few basses and it works, just be careful not to take too much off.
And I don't know if they are adjustable or not, the 4003's (new ones with the slots) are not supposed to be and can be adjusted at your own peril.
