What was last year of the horseshoe pick-up?
Moderators: rickenbrother, ajish4
The modern horseshoe has only changed in that the magnetic element was placed in the slugs within the coil instead of relying on the magnetized chrome horseshoes. The main benefit of the horseshoe, the directing of the magnetic energy 360 degress around the string, is still the defining element of this design. The Alnico is not only decidely stronger magnetically, it is also infinitely more stable over the long haul.
Sure, you can take off the horseshoes from a modern pickup and it will still work- but it doesn't sound half as good that way!

the dufass butchered a Chris Squire signature model ... he put a sound sucking seymour duncan humbucker in it ... and then he let Gene Simmons sign it ... what a dufass ...
he took a $1800 bass and turned it into a $500 bass

That's like sticking your used bubblegum on the Mona Lisa, if you ask me... I thought about writing to the seller myself, but I didn't think they would appreciate my comments. I was gonna ask him how easy it would be to polish off the autograph, which would be the only condition I would have for buying it!

Hey Jeff....wasn't that movie "Mr. Bean?" I mean, how many movies has that guy been in?
I have actually met Gene on several occasions. Once, he and the rest of the band signed an LP for me, which I gave to my brother who was in the hospital. Another time, I went to see (ugh!) Slaughter/Winger?/Kiss and Gene came out to watch the show, I was in the 10th row and he sat next to me and watched the show. His bodyguard told me not to look at him or talk to him, ever since then I have hated him.
