ON THE CUSP OF 12K (THE SECOND TIME)

Post by jingle_jangle »

I'm about to break 12,000...for the second time.

When we switched to the new format, many of us lost posts. I lost over 200. I think at least 10% of my posts take work to write and are intended to help, so it wasn't easy to see them vaporize.

Anyway, it's deja vu, all over again!

Hmmmm.... You've hinted that you might have something really worthwhile to post for your second 12K--

Congratulations in advance! I'm looking forward to seeing some pics of your new projects! :D

I've lost over 300 out of 4500+, more than you did — in both posts and percents. But i don't regret any of them.
Unfortunately now, you won't see "Post number: 12 000" next to the 12 000th post anymore once you've posted 12 001st message.
Nothing will get you dead quicker than being deadly serious about yourself.

When I saw the topic heading I thought you were referring to the output of toaster picups

Is that "with bated breath" or is that "with baited breath"? Must be a sushi thing..... :D

Well, here's my elegant 12,000th post, and it's a re-run:

It's actually got nothing to do with bait. It's got to do with holding one's breath, and is a contraction of abated breath: 'bated breath. Long ago, the apostrophe disappeared (this punctuation device often appears or disappears, usually depending upon the whim or grammatical ability of its user) and it became the oft-misinterpreted "baited breath".

Well, at least 12K was informative...

Happy 12000th, Paul! (again) Hey, that was not a terribly prolix email, actually! :o

So is it the pirate who says "Abate, ye maties!"? Or is that "Avast, ye maties!" ? :P (...or maybe it is just my sense of humor that is under abatement at the moment ? )

OK, everyone, gotta get back to the abbatoir for the remainder of the afternoon....
