Dan, if I remeber correctly, the tuners are actually black - they tend to reflect light to make them appear to be bright metal instead of black. Compare these two pictures of the headstock of my 4003S Redneck:
See how they appear black in one and shiny in the other?

I'd love to have one of those Rednecks. You would just have to remember when in a bar and someone asks; "Whattaya call that thing?" to say 'It's a redneck' not just simply 'redneck'.
Thanks Jeff, I was just about to get up on my soapbox and defend this color combo. This combination just dosent photograph well. It turns out kinda orangy. In real life though its very cool.
The bass player in my friend's old college band had a red 4003 with black trim. It looked nice (as does my midnight blue 4003 with black trim) but overall I think I prefer chrome/white trim.
I love my 4003s5 midnight blue with black trim ... but it doesn't photograph well ... because the deep blue and black trim don't have very much contrast ...
Also I love my 4003s5 white with black trim ... the contrast between the black and white is striking ... a sort of tuxedo look ... one of the cool things about the 4003 is the beautiful shape of the trim parts ... this is a signature look .. aka instant brand recognition ... the problem with white is it will usually fade to cream ... it starts to look a grungy yellow ...
