i am not a fan of the formula-ridden redneck-flavored pop/rock currently being passed off as country music,so fortunately,i missed this as well. hell, the flying burrito bros were too country for my taste, altho i thought they were kinda cool....give me johnny cash, better yet patsy cline.....

As Tom Petty said in the new documentary, modern country music is like bad rock and roll with fiddles.

My eighty year old mom has been saying for years that modern country artists are really aspiring rock-n-rollers, who couldn't get a contract with a rock label. That said, she does like Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert, and a couple of other youngsters. As Tom Petty said in the new documentary, modern country music is like bad rock and roll with fiddles.

I was miffed that "Pushing Daisies" had been preempted!!
If I want to hear some twangy music, I'll go see Big Sandy(used to be rockabilly, but kind of morphed into country swing over the years) or Deke Dickerson or someone like that. These guys all play traditional style country, country swing, and rockabilly, all mixed up to great effect. I can't take much more than a couple of hours of it though, with the exception of Deke Dickerson-he's the best of them. I could probably watch him for hours and go see him any time. He's done a bit of Surf-y stuff as well, if memory serves me correctly.
Probably the best thing about going to see any of the guys mentioned above is that they don't need to wear the ever-present cowboy hat in order to suggest to the audience that the band is playing country music

i can't get it out of my memory, this is the town [nashville] that ran Willie Nelson out of town for having long hair. the people who thought that Emmy lu Harris was to rock n roll for the grand ole opre'. etc......i know there are some real musicians and composers down there but i guess the the color of money still rules.
