Re: Code Name Ric Prom
Well, I'm back home now--<whew> I left my laptop at home during the trip due to "issues" with my wi-fi, but I knew we'd be well covered by others who would be there.
I don't know where to begin, really----it was an event/long weekend to remember on many levels, a bit surreal for me because I am always thinking back to when I first started posting on this Forum, not knowing anyone, and knowing far, far less about Rickenbackers than I do now.
It was just a blast of a time to be with everyone again--the Pascoes, Graham, Alison, Darren, Joey and Diane, JDog and John Biscuti, John Koelling....it's just amazing that how small the world has become, and what great fellowship we have. My better half (Kathy) and all of the other women folk with us looked stunning at the charity gala.
Now, due in the largest part to this Forum's existiance and our common bond with Rickenbacker instruments, here we are....converging from all over the world, sharing food and drink in formal attire, and contributing to a noble cause, the fight against cancer. Many of us have had our lives touched by this, and all we can do to rid it from the earth is needed, for it won't go away on it's own. I was very proud of the 6th-grade schoolgirl who baked cupcakes and sold them, raising $628.00 for the charity...that's a load of cupcakes.
David and Lisa Pascoe are simply two wonderful and gracious people. Their generosity was such that it was as if we were in our own home, it was always a great great time and great food and drink. Thank you both for a simply marvelous time and wonderful memories.
Graham and I had a fun time try to get through as many Byrds tunes we could think of, and other than my fingers falling all over eachother playing right-handed on my '68 370/12, we pulled it off pretty well...
Oh yeah...and late Saturday night everyone got me drunk and carried me up to Dave's computer, and talked me into hitting the BIN on ebay for an '80 4001 LH.....
It had to have been after midnight, and I wasn't drunk, LOL...it was just a great deal!! I enjoyed the DO IT DO IT DO IT chant.....a great way to wrap up the weekend---I think it'll be a decent bass for sure!

Now thats Rickenbacker peer pressure!
Re: Code Name Ric Prom
I don't quite know where to begin. What started out as a total impossibility became possible, due to the assistance of a number of great friends.
I had to go to significant lengths to prevent Dave Pascoe from carrying out one of his practical jokes. I just knew that if I didn't make and appearance in person, he would be taking the p*ss out of me in my absence. He had to be stopped.
Graham, John B and Lisa Pascoe knew of my counter-attack. Graham inspired me to start with; John B and his family hid me in Staten Island for a night and Lisa cleverly led Dave to believe that one of her old school girlfriends was coming to stay. Ooooooooh!
Graham and Alison met up with John B and I not far from Dave's house. Under cover of darkness, I was smuggled into the Rickenbacker Vault without Dave's knowledge and began thumping on the vintage 1960's Premier drum kit. You should have seen Dave's face when he came running down the stairs to find out who dared interrupt J-Dog's wonderful piano playing upstairs. He let out a squeal something similar to the kind you would hear coming from a school girl who had just had her pig-tails pulled.
Sure enough, Dave had plotted for all of the attendees to be holding up "Trotty" faces, but boy, the tables were turned on him!
On a more serious note, Dave and Lisa Pascoe are two of the most generous, hospitable, funny and caring people I know. What they did for all of us over the past few days was simply unbelievable. It still feels surreal as I sit here in the airport lounge at JFK. I knew that flying halfway around the world to be with them would be the right thing to do and they didn't let me down. I thank you both from the bottom of my heart
There were so many highlights from this brief trip. Hanging out with John Biscuti and seeing his band perform. Sharing a breakfast of bagels and cream cheese with the Biscuti family. Cheering on John Simmons to commit to the purchase of yet another Rickenbacker; visiting the Murder Barn and watching JDog selecting a couple of way cool suitcase valve amps; cheering on Joey Vasco as he rocked out on "Blood and Roses" with Pat Dinizio and seeing him laugh outside the Italian restaurant; seeing Diane Vasco trek to the diner with the gang at 3am even though she was just about to head for bed - you go girl! Meeting John Simmon's girlfriend Kathy with her huge smile and warm personality; jamming with Graham Griffiths on original Who-meets-AC/DC-meets-Byrds tunes - damn I wish you were in my band mate! Surfing guitar sites on the internet and swapping stories with John Koelling; slow dancing with Alison and Lisa (*sigh*) and dirty dancing with Jackie (shwing). Oh yeah, sitting in with Pat Dinizio and playing some Rickenbackers was ok, too.
All of this took place against a soundtrack of Dave's wonderful "oooooohs", which have now become a part of VG speak.
I should also mention that this trip would not have been possible without the never-ending encouragement and patience of my wife Robyn.
I have dozens of incriminating photos and I also have Photoshop. Please remember this while I am out of action for the next 22 hours until I reach Melbourne.

Re: Code Name Ric Prom
Great post, Darren. I couldn't have said it better. I just got home and I'm still on cloud 9, and it goes up to 11 ! ! ! Ooooooohhhh, what a time! One of the best weekends I've ever had. Thanks to everyone, especially the Pascoes. I am off to unpack and get ready for work, but I'll be posting lots of thoughts, thanks, mementos, etc. in my own thread, to reduce clutter (sorry, I'm still an accountant you know).
And of course I'll be doing my best to send some nice emails, and in some cases snail mails, this week too.... but for now....to quote Joey V at PHL: See you on the forum!
Cheers, your friendly neighborhood J Dog
ooh..

Re: Code Name Ric Prom
John, I'll bail you out.
I'm willing to give you as much as $10 more for that bass than what you paid for it.
Besides, had I not been looking at Graham's pics on this thread, I probably would have hit the BIN.

For some of us............well me actually..........the weekend isn't over for another week!!
Dave kindly took me out for dinner after a romantic walk around Doylestown this evening.......ooooooohhhhhhhh!!!!
I'm REALLY looking forward to meeting up with John Simmons again on Wednesday to sample some of Winchester's finest ale! I'm feeling sorry for my liver already!!
As I said to Dave this evening, this week is going to be packed with one hightlight after another!
A big thank you to all of my forum buddies for making it a super special weekend and a HUGE thank you to Dave for being just the most perfect host!

You know,
I have GOT to get my head out of my butt and move off that damn BASS SECTION!
I can't believe I didn't see this sooner, WOW.
What can I add to all that has been said, what a great cause. I've lost TOO many family members to cancer and the ovarian cancer battle Janey faced a few years back put it all into prospective. I also last my Dad & my Mother-in-law to cancer as well.
Kudos to everyone who attended.
.,,,,,,,and one more thing.....Didn't ANYONE try out one of those Alembic's hanging on the wall!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?

Simply f....ing incredible!
...Oh...and you go Darren!
...Oh...and you go Darren!
Re: Code Name Ric Prom
I am glad that everyone is making it home safely.
Like Graham said, the event still has a bit more to go until she is over. I hope to post more about the event next week. I am kind of over whelmed to get the words out now.
One high moment was when I was playing at the gala, and Darren wanted to pose for the standard Trott inappropriate photo. It mattered not that 350 people were watching.

A couple more off of Trott's camera. OOOOOH, I hope you don't mind me posting them mate.
