Shipping a bass to Australia
A friend of mine connected with someone in Australia who wanted to buy his Ric bass. Unfortunately, the size exceeds what USPS will send and the major courier services want in the ballpark of US$350. Does anyone here, one of the Aussies perhaps, know the best way to get a bass from the USA to Australia?

Sorry......Darren's here, but leaves for Melbourne on Sunday. Too short notice?

Thanks. Probably so given need to arrange payment and whatnot first.

Unfortunately your options other than UPS or Fedex are just about zilch, Patrick, and $350 is at the lower end of the scale for shipping a bass from/to Oz. I've paid as much as $450 for a guitar!
Personal baggage is by far the best way to go if you can find a traveller who is willing to take it for you.

As I suspected. Thanks.

Re: Shipping a bass to Australia
Hi, I have imported 6 Rics into Australia via Fedex with no problems and great service. I have an account with them and it costs me approx A$350 (approx US$320).

Patrick, sorry mate, I've only just read this thread. Timing is everything. I'm sitting in the club lounge at JFK about to head back to Melbourne.
But I do have a '59 335 Capri and a '65 Fender P Bass on their way home now.
If you're shipping for just one guitar, Fedex or UPS are both pretty good, although not a cheap as USPS once was. If you're looking at shipping two or more, a personal visit is the most enjoyable way to go. Good luck!
