4003 report in NYC

Post by marc61 »

I was in NYC on the infamous block of w48th st between 6th and 7th aves. Used to be home to a dozen or so music shops, now down to just a few as Sam Ash has taken over most of the stores. Manny's, Rudy's... a couple more... that's all that's left.

Anyway, There was a new Jetglo 4003 in Sam Ash, and MG in Manny's. Both places wanted $1615 for the basses. I tried each, and they both had very chunky necks, despite being beautiful. Especially the MG and it's wings of walnut.

Yeah, I just received my new 4003 MG ($1395 from Bass Emporium) and it also has a pretty big neck on it. More wide than chunky. It's more like the 4004Cii I just unloaded. It will take a little getting used to, but it's still incredibly cool.

I thought all the new ones went back to the narrow neck?

RIC may still be producing basses with both neck profiles until their manufacturing cycle clears out all the "old" stock. Remember that we've seen some 4003's show up without walnut wings although this feature was introduced last year.

You forgot to mention Rudy's. They had a 4003. At first, I asked if it was midnight blue and the guy behind the counter said that it was Jetglo and he offered that he had never seen a Jetglo like that. It looked like when this bass was painted, they forgot to empty the gun after using Midnight blue and just put the jetglo in and sprayed this one. It is almost a grayish blue color. Anybody ever see anything like that?

The three stores also had:
Rudy's = 3 650's, 325MG w/Accent Vib, 350V63 Jetglo
Manny's = 360/12 MG
Sam Ash = 360/6 MG
I was also there today.

I will also add that the bass was new and had a Sept 07 Date. He showed me that it said Jetglo on the warranty card.

Don, Manny's has also has an '80 360 Walnut. They want $3000 and they're never going to sell it for that price.

John, it would be hard to photograph it unless you have a jetglo guitar or bass next to it. I saw it in the store and with the light it stood right out. It is a real dark gray that looks like black with some white added to lighten it with a tint of blue. I went in to the city to get a Fender Jaguar. I was suprised to see so many RICs in these stores. Manny's Is across the street from Sam Ash. I went to Rudy's first saw the guitars and went upstairs to check the basses and saw this one as soon as I came in the door. I checked it out and then went to the other stores. I then said to myself, "Self, you can always get a Jaguar but you can't always get a RIC". So, I bought it at a good price. :lol: I will take a picture of it as best I can and post it

Sounds like it could be the new Midnight Blue. Its MUCH darker than the old MID. I really like it! It is to Blue as DCM is to Red! Maybe the store just had the tags from a JG mixed up.

Here's an example of new MID from ebay:

Congrats on the new RIC, BTW.

Jeff, the serial numbers match the bass and the warranty. The lighting is bad but I'll try.
