The best guitarplayers from cartoons.

Post by blazer »

Let's talk about the best and most memorable guitarists from the animated world.

First up Edd AKA Double D from "Ed, Edd N Eddy".
Image
"Double D is the local nerd from the series, a neat freak who excells in school and is the voice of reason. "Double D" is a virtuoso on Pedal Steel being able to play the most amazing lines on the instrument and even play them with his feet. Despite his mastery of that instrument Double D states that he loathes the pedal Steel. Sorry for the ****** pic, the only episode I found where he was playing the pedal steel was of very questionable quality.

Then there's Trent Lane of "Daria"

Trent was the main male character of the series and for a long time the object of lead character Daria's affections. Trent is the stereo typical Gen-X musician, clean on being an original and writing all the songs for his band "Mystic Spiral" himself. Trent is both leadsinger and lead guitarist, his solos however are nothing special nor are his songwriting skills anything to write home about. The clip from the episode "Pierce me" is a good example of the kind of music Trent wrote.

Alvin from The Chipmunks

Although each member of the Chipmunks was a multi instrumentalist and Alvin was also frequently seen playing keyboards, in most of the episodes he played guitar. The Chipmunks however only played covers (aside from the opening tune in the clip) so we cannot really judge his playing. Although being able to actually play every song that was covered by the Chipmunks must mean that he was a pretty skilled player.

Noodle from The Gorillaz

Noodle is a Japanese girl who shipped herself to England where she joined the band "The Gorillaz" She got her name from the food she ate during the trip. According to the Band's website the only english word she knows is "Noodle" but lead vocals on songs like "19-2000" and "Dare" show otherwise. And as you can tell from this pic she has a good taste what guitars are concerned.

Blossom from The powerpuff girls

Although the Powerpuff girls only did one performance as a band (In the episode "Mime for a change") Blossom stole the show playing her Flying V using her stumps. How is it possible to play a solo like that when you got no fingers? The clip comes from the Japanese dub of the Powerpuff Girls, the only USA versions I found were so bad in quality that I just couldn't show those.

Finally from Tom and Jerry there's Uncle Pecos

Uncle Pecos is a country and Western guitar slinger with a considerable technique and a thick stuttering southren brawl. He also has a peculiar taste for strings using Tom's whiskers instead of packing some spare sets. Listen to the solo he plays at 4:50. I wouldn't be surprised if a certain player called Les Paul has played that one in.

My daughter says, Toki, the rhythm guitarist from Deathklok, or perhaps Skwizgar (sp?) the lead guitarist from the same "group" (show).

If you havn't seen the show, look it up. My daughter says you're stupid if you don't watch it. But she laughed when she said it, so maybe she was just joking. Anyway, it is pretty funny.

Kids these days, eh?

Well, to us (my daughter and myself), they are the best. :D

(a mouse from "Mouse's song", band from "Musicians of Bremen" - both relatively old Soviet cartoons)
Nothing will get you dead quicker than being deadly serious about yourself.

No Rock Roll? He could tear up the two string guitar on The Flintstones - just give a listen to the intro from The Twitch! :D

Regarding the "Uncle Pecos" guitarist; that was actually "Shug" Fisher who was with The Sons of the Pioneers ("Cool Water"). He also had a recurring role on The Beverly Hillbillies as 'Shorty Kellems' during the '69-'70 season. That cartoon is hands down my favorite Tom & Jerry cartoon bar none!
