Jeff, I thought after all these years I should try out a Warwick bass. I've always liked the look of them and have heard good things about them. I did this about a week ago at Sound Control, my local music store.

I tried 3 diferent basses ranging in price from quite reasonable, to very expensive. I'm afraid that I don't remember what the models were.

Anyway, I hated them all. The best IMHO was the cheapest as I got quite a good Jacoesque burpy wooden tone from it. The others I just couldn't get a good working tone out of them, and then there are the necks.... IMHO I thought they were some of the most uncomfortable necks on basses that I have ever played.

They had a MIM Fender Jazz that was near the Warwicks so I gave that a play after just to check that I wasn't having a really bad day. Well it played like a dream, had a good variety of workable voices and felt like a confortable pair of slippers compared to the Warwicks.

I guess you might feel from this that I wasn't that impressed with Warwick basses. :?

I too, am not a fan of Warwick necks, or the shape of their bodies either! I did play one of those Corvette $$ recently and was impressed with the tone, though.

I had a Warwick Corvette Pro-Line 5 string that felt and played great. Great lows and highs, It lacked mids though,,a 3 band EQ would have been better.

I just cant say enough about my Carvin ICON though, Its the first bass I've ever owned that I havent had to do any tweaking with. Hell I even like the strings that came on it.

I'm going to order a 5'r.
