Some of today's rock stars are cool

Post by marc61 »

I know many of you hate Fall Out Boy, and therefore have disdain for the brains behind the band, Pete Wentz. My son and I kinda met him twice over the past week, and I have to say he was pretty cool.

First we saw them in concert, and we had front row seats, but they were on the side of the stage, and it was kind of like being back stage. Long story short, we had a brief encounter with the band at the beginning of the evening, and then at the end of their set, much later, it seemed like Pete was waving good-bye to my son after they got off stage. My kid sticks out at concerts cuz he's so small, very cool looking, and extremely into the music.

Two days later Pete did a signing at Sam Ash in NYC. Deal was, you could wait on a long line for an autograph, or you could be one of 100 who bought his bass guitar, and get to the front. Of course, I'm a sport and buy a bass for my son. When we get inside, he acknowledged us as if he remembered us saying he couldn't forget my kids hair. We had some brief conversation, and he personalized everything including a photo for my daughter who wasn't there.

I know you guys will blow it off as typical rock star rhetoric, but I feel the guy genuinely likes his fans. At least he didn't seem to be on drugs or drunk like guys from my day would have been. They never would have made a public appearance like that.

Only negative - but not a big one - that bass he plays is a piece of ****. Made in Indonesia. Just junk all around. That's why he always has a dozen on the side of the stage. They probably break all the time, and I'l bet he just tosses them away. I think he changed basses twice during one song, That's probably what happened

I like him because he's the brains of the band. I don't like the band all that much but I like the idea of the bass player being the on-stage musical leader as well as the overall creative leader.

Yeah, total garbage. I think the idea was to have a P=bass style, one volume, and A neck size like jazz bass, but it didn't have to be such ****.

Mike Dirnt and Mark Hoppus both have nice basses out, and the quality is not like this.

Yes, it is kinda odd though when you see him as the spokesperson as well, meaning he does the banter between songs.

Also as to quality of his Squier bass model, I remember reading in an interview that he wanted his sig bass to be affordable for kids to be able to buy.

Ohhhh ohhh ohh! Didja meet Ashlee too? I hadta ask. :D

And I agree about the bass he plays. Why do an artist sig series with a guitar that's a piece of ****? I'm suprised he doesn't play a straight up Fender. I think Avril has a Sig Squier too.

So what about the kids? then they'll think the guitar is a piece of ****. He shoulda did what Dirnt And Hoppus did and have their main model be a Fender but have a Squier version available too.

I agree. Cool ot have the affordable model, but the bass is almost disposable. Literally.
