Sonic Blue
Sonic Blue
I just received this as a gift...I know, this close to Christmas, but hey...anyway, it's a new Sonic Blue, like the Beatles', '60's Player's Strat. I have to say that this is a great guitar. I really like it and I normally don't like Strats that much. It sounds great, nailing the sound from the Help!-Revolver era. It plays much better than the usual Mex '60's Strats. All in all, a great guitar and a very welcome addition to my Beatles guitar collection. The pic looks a little washed out...it's hard to capture this color.

Re: Sonic Blue
Pretty Sweet! I like that color finish. Congratulations!!
Re: Sonic Blue
Thanks. It's proving to be a real joy to play and it is encouraging me to go after some other songs that I haven't tried out in a long time, or that I had given up on figuring out.

Re: Sonic Blue
I love those 60's Fender colours!
Nice one....

Re: Sonic Blue
Beautiful guitar, congrats! You're spot-on wrt to Fender's Classic series guitars--I'd likely opt for a Classic or Classic Players over a Highway or Am Std, based on the ones I've owned or played.
I'm another big fan of the pastels too....I've got a sonic blue '57RI (CIJ) with a maple board, and an A/VRI '62 JM in surf green. I've always got an eye out for a shell pink guitar...
I've had a parts-o-caster project on the back burner for a while now, to build a replica of the Lennon/Harrison strats. So far I've got a body (CIJ Sonic Blue) and neck (MIM Classic 60s with Rosewood board), and a Classic 60s bridge/trem. Just need to get off my butt and do the pickups/switches and tuners.

My '64 Jazz bass will go to Paul for a "shell pinking" next year...

Re: Sonic Blue
The old-style custom colors like the Sonic Blue, Shell Pink, etc., are a big part what makes old-school style Fenders so cool. I also have a Lake Placid Blue '60's Strat and a Dakota Red '62 Jaguar reissue. They really have a different vibe than sunburst, black, and blonde guitars. Sometimes those seem too serious, of you know what I mean.
Re: Sonic Blue
Nice, Matthew! I just refin'd a 1979 Wal bass in the same Sonic blue!

Leprosy is rare & scarce but nobody wants that!
Re: Sonic Blue
Nice Strat, Matthew. I like the non-burst colours as well, although my AM DLX 50th Anniversary is pretty stunning!
I don't have any pastels (yet?) but I do have a MIJ Lake Placid Blue, an AM Olympic White and an AM DLX Candy Tangerine - the latter two with maple necks.... love them maple necks!!
Maybe I need a Candy Apple to complete the spectrum!!

Re: Sonic Blue
Nice Wal, Mike! Are you going to refinish the other one like that, also?

Re: Sonic Blue
I like Sonic Blue, and I'd like to get a Fiesta red. It'd be nice to have `57 AVRI in both of those colors. I have a `62 AVRI Mary Kay from the 80s. It's got some wear, and 12th fret dots weren't spaced properly back then, but oh well. I also have a surf green `57 AVRI. I prefer the maple necks for some reason. I think it's the lacquer. I still love my `62 though. I had my eye on a `57 Lake Placid Blue when I saw the Mary Kay, which seemed more unique, so I bought it instead.
Re: Sonic Blue
That is so funny! I just picked up the exact same guitar (color and everything)! I've never owned a Fender and was wary of the MIM's but this thing played incredible and the price was just too good to pass up. I'm still a 100% Rickendudette, however
Re: Sonic Blue
Rickendudette! I love it!
Happy Thanksgiving Alisha!
