Re: GIG BAG?
I have their cordura double bag for bass guitars and it has served me very well for the past decade.
Re: GIG BAG?
Never mind....I just found out JetBlue won't allow me to carry on a guitar! Doesn't that just suck!
Re: GIG BAG?
With JetScrew, you have to buy a seat for the guitar. Then it can fly....

So it seems...

Re: GIG BAG?
You wouldn't want to trust your Rick in a gig bag anyway, Steve.

Re: GIG BAG?
Steve, I agree with Kris. You don't want your Rick in a gig bag if you are flying with it. I've never been able to take a bass guitar on board an airplane. Sometimes guitarists can take a guitar in the cabin, but bassists always get told that their bass is too big.
Very small possibility if the plane is not very full, you might be able to take in on board. The only way you can guarantee getting your Rick on board is like Elys said, buy a seat for it. Even then, I'd want my Rick in a hardshell case.

JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!

Re: GIG BAG?
Steve, many trombone players (I think of myself as one of them too) have resorted to shipping their horns very carefully packed to where they need to bring it, then shipping it back. This way they avoid the whole flying with an instrument experience.
Before 9/11, I flew with one of my trombones a few times with an SKB hard case. They didn't open them up at all, but now those days are gone. I would put a cone in the bell to keep the bell section from being damaged, and after 9/11 I couldn't be sure who might handle the horn after I'd carefully packed it.
I agree with the others about gig bags. Maybe I'm more of a klutz, but I only use hard cases for my trombones and basses.

Re: GIG BAG?
I took both my 366/12 and my 4001 with me on the cabin inside hardcases!
I was able to easily fit them both in the overhead bins, they actually don't take up any place if you let people put their stuff on it (I am talking hardcase, remember?)
Check this out:

Edit: Almost forgot: I flew jetblue from LA to JFK with the 366 and had the guitar taken onboard. Jetblue run airbuses and their entire fleet is "guitars friendly" and can easily hold a bass in the overhead bins. Read the guide I gave you, from personal experience - it works.

So long and thanks for all the fish!
Re: GIG BAG?
Joey, I will try to take my 4001 aboard the Lufthansa to NYC on Monday. Let's see what difference business class makes?
Re: GIG BAG?
Pete: I took my 366/12 in economy. ELAL from JFK to TLV. they wanted me to check it in but I refused and they were ok with that (hard case).
Business from Vienna to TLV on ELAL - my 4001 inside a VERY long hardcase, too long for a 400x. No problems at all, except the gate employee who tried to gate checkin it, he said something like "das is nichet!!!" and pointed at my guitar, I answered with the only few words I know in German and told him: "Das is ya ya, business class" so he went away...
There is no chance in hell anyone would give you a hard time flying business class with a guitar.
Good luck!

Peter: Did you have any problems taking your guitar?
So long and thanks for all the fish!
