The McCartney Years

Post by congerz83 »

Am I the only one who has purchased the newly released 3-DVD collection?

+1 here

Last Thursday I purchased the triple DVD
I quickly watched the third disc and the sound of the Rockshow tracks is fantastic
Has anybody else noticed that on Maybe I'm Amazed, Denny switches three times type of bass?
Quite impossible to do that on stage during the same concert unless they just pasted different videos from three shows

It sounds excellent. It must have been re-mastered.

Mine's on the way. I glad to hear it's as good as I hoped it would be! 8)

I've got it too! It's great to have all this stuff in excellent quality and I've had a blast watching all the videos. But...

I can't really shake the feeling that it could have been a little bit better. There are a bunch of videos (like 10-15 I'd guess) that he's made that aren't included (in a 3-DVD set?) in favor of heavily edited versions of Rockshow and Unplugged, which merit their own official releases. Lot of great stuff on the menu screens, though, like a version of Paul singing Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five alone at the piano... but it would have been cool to have the real video of that too, rather than just on the menu screen.

Anyway, it's still a lot of fun. It's surprising how many videos Paul has made in which he plays the drums!

Some funky videos. I didn't get The Beatles references in the Band on the Run video. That didn't make any sense to me. I did like Henry McCullough playing drums and Denny Seiwell playing a trumpet in C Moon. I liked Juniors Farm. I thnk that is one of the few times I've seen Geoff Britton playing drums. I loved the Rickenbacker picture on the first page of the booklet. It looks to be from the Wings Over Europe Tour in 1975. I watched the videos chronologically and I think I enjoyed it more that way. I thought the songs on the menu page for each disk was cool. Instead of using a song from the compilation he used snippets of different songs. Bkackpool,Wanderlust and a funky remix of Hope of Deliverence. I haven't listened to the commentary yet. Maybe the bext time through.

When I was watching Maybe I'm Amazed it made me think how amazed I am that with all the divorce talk for Paul and all the stories about his family, how come his step daughter Heather is never mentioned? I believe she is actually lives on the Peasmarsh estate.

Heather is mentioned often in the commentary. Especially during "Maybe I'm Amazed". By the way, what make is the black bass paul plays on the "Juniors Farm" video? I noticed the only other time we see it is during the "Ebony and Ivory" video.

Richard,

That black bass is a Kay. I'd like to try one and see what it sounds like.

WOW!! Although difficult to catch, the "This One" video features the 4001.

4001 mentioned during commentary of "So Bad" as simply "an alternative to my Hofner during the Beatle days."

I was disappointed with Spies Like Us and Waterfalls. The best part of Spies like us was Donna Dixon and Vanessa Angel near the end . And the best part of Waterfalls was at the end when he shut off the light and walks away. Then you hear him hit the deck and hear all the crashing behind him and the animals going crazy.

During Rockshow, what is Paul using for a bass amp? I can see three Fender stacks with one of the heads on top of Marshall cabnets. Is Paul playing through a Bassman using Marshall cabnets? Those three stacks are the only amps I can see.

Is anyone else noticing the bad mix on some of these videos. Band on the Run there is no echo on the solo. Unplugged there is no Robbie. And the Super Bowl no solos from Rusty. Am I dreaming? Did I get a bad copy? Did someone forget to check the masters before the release.

Finally finished watching the "live" portion of this set. I know some will probably disagree with me, but to me, "Glastonbury" was his greatest set, ever! My jaw dropped watching it and I've seen alot of Macca shows since 76. Macca gave it his all at that show.
On another note, this is the way every live Macca DVD should be filmed. Mostly showing what is on stage with just a few showing the audience
