Click on my photos to blow them up John (especially the back) and I'm sure you will see the woodgrain pattern matches. Oh, I figured I'd mention that I told John to enjoy my baby while he has it as I know she found a great temporary home!
Re: Everyone...I NEED SOME GUIDANCE....
This story helps renew my faith in humanity…. John you took the high road and my hat is off to you. Character is what you do when no one else would find out; and sir you have shown a real good amount of it.
Abbott I am so glad you will be reunited with the bass …. I just don’t know how I’d feel if my 4001 were removed from my possession (don’t even want to think about it). No amount of insurance could replace my bass – we’ve been through too much together.
Congrats to both of you – John, I hope you get your cash back. This is indeed a true Thanksgiving moment.

Re: Everyone...I NEED SOME GUIDANCE....
By the way, something obvious-everybody out there take good detailed photos of your instruments to the point of uniquely identifying it (scratches, woodgrain pattern, modifications and of course serial #), and everybody register your Rick on the site here-doing this sure helped me!
Re: Everyone...I NEED SOME GUIDANCE....
I have started a dialogue with Paypal and yes, it looks promising...I will probably work on this tonight at home.....waiting to hear from Charlotte PD as well.sinisterick wrote:Oh and John, you can at least keep the control knobs as I have the originals (in addition to me doing everything I can to get your money back. Beautiful bass. Great story. Thanks for the pics.
I have more questions though: (I'm the curious type!)
1) How long ago was it stolen?
2) Where was it when it was stolen? At a gig? In your home?
Its so cool to see you getting your stolen bass back, Abbott!
Somebody buy John a beer!

Re: Everyone...I NEED SOME GUIDANCE....
The Rick was stolen back on 12/7 last year. A crowbar was used to bust through my back door which was deadbolted. I also lost an early (mid 80's I believe)Japanese Fender Jazz bass sunburst lefty and an Ibanez Soundgear 800 black Lefty both recovered from Bob's Pawn I think about 6 weeks after the theft. The only reason these were recovered is that Bob had them out on the floor for sale. When asked, Bob told the detective that he had the Rick and sold it already for cash to someone he didn't know nor was the buyer's info recorded on a receipt. The detective told me he saw a cash receipt with no other info on it. I'm hoping for a search warrant to look for other stuff of mine he may have as obviously he held the rick until things cooled down (boy is he in for a surprise). Currently, Bob's Pawn does not have any of my stuff on e-bay but who knows what is stolen there. I hope the police will probe every orifice of his-holding and inspectind his entire inventory including all the nooks and crannys of his store-maybe even his personal residence. The slime who broke into my home sold a lot of my stuff to Bob-some I got back but obviously not all. Bob recorded the guys picture I.D at the time of purchase-only a few hours after the break in (the I'D was of someone who lived a few blocks away from me and having a prior record of break ins) but the D.A decided there was insufficient evidence as Bob's pawn could not pick him out of a line up. Why the D.A. required this additional proof is ridiculous as I thought at the time that Bob may be an interested party, not wanting to shut down a source of goods. I think the proof is there and will try to get the D.A to re-visit. I will be fighting and kicking for the arrest of Bob's pawn and the thief and will go to TV and Radio stations if nothing is done to these people. Bob's pawn is an enabler as the thieves have a place to sell their stolen goods. Bob's pawn knowingly lied to a detective, submitted a false reciept, purchased stolen goods, knowingly sold stolen goods across state lines-multiple felonies. In addition, I will be seeing what I can do as far as suing Bob's pawn for loss of use, emotional distress, and punitive damages to make sure he doesn't knowingly posess and sell stolen merchandise again!

Re: Everyone...I NEED SOME GUIDANCE....
Yes, it appears that Bob's is at the center of it all, ending up with it both times.....
It should be hard to explain it, after all he knew it was stolen the FIRST time around when asked, and knowingly put the same item up on ebay.....wouldn't want to be him right now...
