Slightly off-topic, but I recall the first (and only) time I ever saw a 325/12 being played on stage. It was a 60's retro band out of Houston called The Saltwater Cats (later renamed The Voxtones). This was in the late 1980's. Their frontman/guitarist Johnny played a 325/12 JG with 9-strings. He removed the octave strings from the top three strings. This way he could play bar chords and sound like a 6-string, but his open chords rang like a 12-string. I later saw him playing a Vox Teardrop 9-string at another show. It was pink with white polka dots. I talked to him after the show and he explained that he liked his Vox 9-string so well, that he strung his Rick 12 the same way. You wouldn't believe how great that guitar sounded playing 'Ticket To Ride'. It sounded like a 6 and a 12-string, but there was only one guitar playing!

Yikes Nick...why do these things always turn up when there're crickets chirping in the wallet? :D

Nice guitar collection. You must be able to handle the 3/4 neck. I owned a 325V63, and couldn't adjust to it. I sold it last week, as it had no value sitting under my bed collecting dust. In some ways, I'll miss that guitar, but it belongs to someone who'll love it and play it more than I did.

Now that's a perfect example of humility where it doesn't belong! Don't let him kid you, that spectacular collection of Short Scales is definitely in the hands of someone who can play them. And I'm witness to the fact that he's venturing into the song writing arena as well. My only frustration is that we used to live close enough that I could easily spend time playing all those guitars, but now that he's moved the logistics are more difficult. The newly aquired c64 is just more motivation to take a trip and see him again. She's a beauty Bill...really sets off the whole collection. They will make a great calendar photo!

Too funny John, thanks for the kind words. Yeah, I've got the two requirements you stipulated for the music room complete, so you have no excuse now--the SH poster is up and the c64 is here!!

No, really, Bill, seriously, what DO you think of the Rick 325? :)

I love my 325C58 JG, but, man, when I see that beautiful natural finish and the gorgeous woodgrain underneath...I wish I'd grabbed both of the ones I saw at GC back in 2004. Beautiful group there, Bill.

Thanks Jerry! You and me both as far as the 2004 deals...I was just getting back into music in 2004, and hadn't really discovered Rics, other than just an awareness that The Beatles played them. I guess GC was blowing these 2003s out for some fantastic prices.

Brian, thanks for the kind words. They are really fun guitars to play....the c58s in particular so feather light...

So you were not around for the Clearwater, FL open mic scene earlier this decade... :)

I love it when people dig up old threads! :P

Congrats on the 325, though.

It's ironic to think what would happen if Bill commented in this thread, seeing as he's sold a good majority of that 325 collection.

Oh, so that would explain why the images are gone - I was about to post asking if Bill's "325 family" was still together and whether he'd ever found a suitable 325/12 (mine remains my favorite guitar) - but then I saw this thread's second page of posts, ending in this JakeK's from 11+ months ago... As for some of us digging up old threads, well, some of us are (at least I know I am...) trying to reach 30 posts in order to be able to see what's for sale... So, maybe you can just consider it "GAS-driven digging" and "take pity on the afflicted"... (Though, it occurs to me that if the number of my registrations in the database were to count toward the required 30 posts I'd be there by now... As it doesn't, a little "digging" on my part is likely to continue just a bit longer... )
