POLL: Misplaced fret marker dot - cool or just a defect?

Post by houblues »

I initially posted this in the C Series section because it relates to the brand new 325C64 that I just received today. But it really is a more general question so I am reposting it here.

One of the fret marker dots is on the wrong fret. It is at the 10th fret instead of the 9th. I am talking about the little dots on the side of the neck. The larger ones on the fretboard are in their ususal spot. I confirmed with RIC that this is a factory error rather than a quirk of the 325C64. So it appears I have a one of a kind item.

:?: :?: :?: So here's the poll question...Is this a cool feature that makes the guitar unique, or is it just a defect? :?: :?: :?:

I respect the opinions of the forum members, which will weigh heavily in my decision whether I keep it or return it. I am eager to decide, as it needs a setup, which I obviously don't want to pay for if I am returning it, so I would appreciate your thoughts as soon as you can give them. Thanks!

Patrick: It may be a one of a kind and that is the good news. The bad news is that having the fret-marker in the wrong place is likely to be confusing. Sometimes unique features come back to bite you. I would be inclined to return it. Just my two cents.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I've got great respect for Peter's opinion. He's probably right, return it. I can see his point. It would drive me crazy if I thought I was playing one chord (note), when in reality I was a step off.

Patrick, posted this in the other section, then realized you moved....

Not sure what I'd do either. I can see the uniqueness angle, but on the other hand you've waited and paid for everything to be right...but then on your third hand, how long to wait for another one or a repair?

There's also the resale question....while I think most folks don't necessarily plan on selling their new guitars, circumstances change, and how might someone else value the flaw? And of course, you'd probably have to deal with all us wonks here who would insist it's a fake since "Ric would never have done that!" :D

Tough call, sorry I'm not more help...

Thanks guys. I agree that playability comes first so it is going back. MF still has another in stock, at least for now.
