5002 Mandolin info

Post by jdogric12 »

Hey gang. I just picked up a 5002v58 MG from July 1995 and was wondering just how early in the production this was. It's got to be one of the first, yes? Something else I noticed is the bridge. It looks like they took a 12-saddle bridge (which would be leftover from the 370RM and 660TP runs) and placed regular, full-size, double-grooved saddles in notches 2, 5, 8, and 11 (for symmetry). Thoughts?

Plus, I tried to take pics but inside with the flash they looked awful. I'll wait for some sun this weekend and re-shoot and post.

Just found a comment from Richard at RIC where he says that they appeared in the retail price list for the first time in 1995. So yours is very early indeed! Can't wait to see some good pics.

The bridge of mine ('05) also has holes for the 12-saddle bridge.

Yep, that's the same one. Surprising no one bid. 40+ watchers though.

Thanks Joe - I'm waiting for sunshine for pics, but we seem to have a shortage of it this week. I might just hook up the shop lights tonight and try that.

Thanks Rich! It's interesting to see how the finish works with the walnut. Like a 650E/F I guess.

Nice maple on that, we haven't seen that nice a birds eye since the last of the 4002s.
