Having heard Darren play the blues on a Rick, and seen Jerry doing some pretty good tricks with his 650, it is NOT a one trick pony! Guitarists don't have open minds. We may be Lemmy-like, but they are lemming-like!! {:^)

I like the "open minded" theory . Hence we have more to share and digest . Guitar players have The Amp , The Guitar , and are done with it . Oh yeah .....Lemmy ( motorhead) is NOT a Bass player
It's too early in the morning to talk about our relationship !

I think Abbott hit the nail on the head. The average Rick guitarist I know has more instruments than the average Rick bassists I know. YMMV, but I'm convinced. That's the only way to explain the numbers.

+1 about guitarists generally not being open minded.

On this forum, every 6 string player KNOWS the Ric is far and away the most versatile guitar available (not to mention stylish). However, we RRF guitarists are only a minute sampling of the guitarists out there in the big bad world and, in my experience, the general guitarist perception of Ric 6 strings is they are one trick ponies.

We RRF guitarists are not in any hurry to enlighten the millions of non-Ric guitarists out there, as the demand for Rics is already too far ahead of the supply. Should the general masses of non-Ric guitarists ever come to the realization that we RRF guitarists have already experienced, there would be NO Ric 6 strings available to us-who-need-more. So there may be fewer guitarists on the forum because we are keeping it to ourselves!

Selfish? YES! But after all, we are guitarists :)

Lemmy has stuck with Ric much longer than CS and GL.

Excellent point, Sean. It is always fascinating to see the impact of a famous artist on the promotion of a make and model of instrument. The extent to which fame rubs off seems to depend on many factors, longevity being one of them.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Judging by your avatar, you can't decide between bass or guitar, so your opinion doesn't count. :P

As of last night, I have 3 Rick basses - a DCM (thanks Melibee!), V63 and a 4005 (plus one Alembic).

I have 6 Rick guitars (2-12's, 4-6er's).

I play lead in my band, but I prefer playing bass, and consider myself a better bassist than guitarist. I'll play bass on my recordings any chance I get.

But I don't know all the techie stuff, so I basically stay out of posting in the bass section so as not to lower the intellectual level of the forum! :|

You are right, they don't make guitars, but they do make the world's best basses IMHO.

In fact, I have always heard they make really good 6-string basses too, in addition to 4-string, 5-string, and 8-string basses.

So I keep ordering them in long-scale in various colors and body styles. Problem is, every time a new one arrives and I open the case on what is supposed to be a new 6-string long scale bass, they instead have these really skinny little strings and short-scale necks...someday I am gonna figure this out...

Congratulations, Jerry! I bought five or six of those special six-string basses from Melibee myself - she and Marc are Good Folks indeed. I'd recommend them to anyone

I fully aggree with Elys Rand (don't like these extremely short scale 6-string basses)and Rick Carlos (Lemmy is NOT a bass player) IMHO bass needs 5 strings in maximum to be simple enough to be played by simple minded people like me! I really admire those sweatting, headbanging, longhaired, noiseless-open-mouth screaming guitarists  , but I have to concentrate on the coordination of my 10 fingers and to avoid upsetting the drummer :(
But I STILL HAVE FUN!!!
