Bass is thought, at least by some, to be the foundation upon which all other aspects of a song are grounded. Perhaps it is the very fundamental nature of the bass that almost reflexively pulls us to it. That we would all gravitate to this topic may follow from this way of thinking.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I've heard your "noodling" on a guitar. If your bass is better than that, all I can say is "gads!"shamustwin wrote:I play lead in my band, but I prefer playing bass, and consider myself a better bassist than guitarist.

Let's be realistic shall we... Lemmy hasn't a clue....Never did! Geddy is damn good but no one that I know of has been playin' a Rick bass as long and as well as CS!phlemmy wrote:Lemmy has stuck with Ric much longer than CS and GL.
Oh yeah....We Rick bass players have the largest horns too.

I haven't read all 3 miles of this thread but keeping with the title which is a repeat from a few years ago, I think more people play Ric basses than play the guitars, pretty simple to me.

Yeah! Playing a Ric is another way to stand out from the rest of the guitarists out there; It's visually unique and stunning, and has its own soung as well. I don't jangle by the way, at least not with my band.bitzerguy wrote:+1 about guitarists generally not being open minded.
On this forum, every 6 string player KNOWS the Ric is far and away the most versatile guitar available (not to mention stylish). However, we RRF guitarists are only a minute sampling of the guitarists out there in the big bad world and, in my experience, the general guitarist perception of Ric 6 strings is they are one trick ponies.
We RRF guitarists are not in any hurry to enlighten the millions of non-Ric guitarists out there, as the demand for Rics is already too far ahead of the supply. Should the general masses of non-Ric guitarists ever come to the realization that we RRF guitarists have already experienced, there would be NO Ric 6 strings available to us-who-need-more. So there may be fewer guitarists on the forum because we are keeping it to ourselves!
Selfish? YES! But after all, we are guitarists

Beyond Ric basses what else is there to talk about here ...
Ric amps ... yawn ...
Ric guitars, gee they sure are quaint ...
But Ric basses growl and snarl ...
we leave all the flowers to the Ric guitar players ... us bass players keep our Axes in a dungeon chained up so women and children will be safe ... we string them with long fat strings that produce thunderous low notes ... our notes are so profound that we dare not play chords ... one note at a time is all we dare subject our audience to ...

Besides, just try to 6-2-7 or 12-2-14 a Rick guitar.
Re: Why Does Bass Forum Traffic Dwarf All Others?
I think that it's just that when folks mention "Rickenbacker" they will think first of "bass". The traffic on this site perpetuates that...Truthfully, I think the versatility of the Rick bass is the key. While it's hard to compare my fretless J to my 4004 and 4001, I have no problem playing any style with the Ricks. I guess that could be said about a J or P bass too...
But my favorite 6 string is by far my 66 Fender Mustang. I try to love my Dakota, but it really isn't as good an intrument. I would guess a Fender forum might have reversed traffic due to the success of the Stratocaster.
