BTW, when comparing "full-sized guitar", I would have used another Ric.

I though that too, Richard.
And I concur, just beautiful maple on that one, Jason. Congrats.

Awesomely beautiful Mando there! Congrats! Does it play like it looks?

I think of mandolins as miniature 8 string basses!nyrkickazz1 wrote:Guess you haven't seen any 381's!jps wrote:Nice maple on that, we haven't seen that nice a birds eye since the last of the 4002s.

Hmm...that'd be an interesting tuning for it!jps wrote:I think of mandolins as miniature 8 string basses!
When are you gonna get a 5002? Chris Clayton has a few Jetglo's on order.

Don't tempt me!
Re: 5002 Mandolin info
Outstanding instrument. I'm looking forward to hearing it, J-dog.
One day I'll take the plunge maybe...
Maybe a Ric bouzouki would sell?
I would buy one.

It plays just like it looks - really difficult to squeeze the fingers in there. But simple chords like G, C, D (and my new favorite D/G) aren't too bad, and lots of fun to strum away on. It will take some time before I'm proficient like Biscuti, but hopefully not too long, after all, it is a small world.
Tony - you can bet I'll bring it. I can just lay it on the dashboard if the back of the car is too full.

Also, this had a very desirable but unexpected effect.
We had a band practice Wednesday night. Our percussionist (congas, djembe, bongos, etc), who has never expressed much desire to play guitar or any other stringed instrument, saw and heard the 5002 and loved it. I showed him three easy chords and he was rocking it in under an hour. I brought out my Epi Mandobird IV and we had a dual mandolin jam, with the other guitar player on his lap steel. It was really cool.
Also interesting to note is that the drummer has been playing Guitar Hero lately, so I think that actually fueled his drive to play something with strings. And here I've been thinking Guitar Hero was a bad thing! Who knew? So, yeah, I think GH will make more people want to play real guitars, not take away from guitar players who play.

I hope you're right. Did anyone happen to catch the Southpark parody on Guitar Hero? It was hilarious! "Dad....that's so gay!" I just about wet myself laughing.jdogric12aolcom wrote:...I think GH will make more people want to play real guitars, not take away from guitar players who play.
Oh yeah....Great looking Mandolin!
