Tony I think you did GREAT....

IMO the case is possibly early '80s, but the bass looks all original. It should clean up very nice...

Thanks Everyone!

I just spoke to the seller, it is a March 1971 BG.

This is my one and ONLY chance at owning an EARLY 4001.

It's going to need a little TLC and cleaning up, but the seller states it plays perfectly.

I sure hope I like this one, it looks like it has seen lots of action in the past.

LOL, oh yes, the passion4pillows id belongs to my wife! LOL, she makes custom embroidered designs and, yes, PILLOWS...I thought of the name, I can't imagine WHAT was going through my mind when I thought of it. The Mrs. bless her heart, didn't catch on until it was too late!

Well, I'm not a PRO. But I hope you forgive me for congratulating you on what for me looks like a very good deal! Its more or less the same price as what I paid for my Jan '73 with some issues.

ARE YOU KIDDING???

Your deal is second only to a deal where the SELLER HAD TO PAY YOU TO TAKE IT.

Although my '72 is in a better shape:
1. Yours is '71
2. I paid more than double
3. Actually - it would have cost me less to purchase yours, have it shipped to someone in the US, fly over to the states, pick it up and come back to Israel...!

Incredible.
Please tell us how it plays as soon as you get it.
So long and thanks for all the fish!

Thanks, I will. You are going to laugh at me, and it is well known that I'm not very good at these early ones, but I couldn't make out the jack plate! I had a panic attack that it MIGHT have said STEREO-O-SOUND!

I just hope it is a great player. I guess I can get the chrome re-plated if needed but I'll just wait until it gets here before I decide anything.

Ok, to REALLY show my ignorance, didn't these early ones have a HS or was that the 60's models?

Thanks agian eveyrone, I'm going on what you vintage players keep raving about.

Appears to be a great deal from the pictures when you consider the last 1971 on Ebay went for 5K+ and it had some issues also. Congratulations, great color!.

Looking closely at the bridge pickup surround, you can see it's notched like the later ones. I don't know if that makes it a later replacement, but if you look at the closeup of the neck pickup area, you can see the action is very low, so an un-notched surround might not have worked anyway. Low action like that is a sign of a good neck with no truss rod issues. Definitely a good deal!

Awesome snag, Tony. This only reinforces my occasional obsession with checking Ebay every five minutes. Wow. That looks like a hell of a bass. I didn't pay a whole lot less for my June 73, and I thought I got a great deal on that.
