Perhaps because the seller offers to ship it worldwide?

My '80 Jetglo didn't go a month ago when I put it up with a buy it now of $1400, but I ended up trading it for another Ric instead of selling it. $3K is just crazy.

Shill? The winner's last feeback was over a year ago. I'd be interested if this gets relisted.

There is a big difference between something that gets bid up to $3,000 by over eager bidders and something that opens at $3,000.

Opening at $3,000 and still getting a bid is too absurd to be true. This is a case of shill bidding, I guarantee it!

I've said it before but this is the sort of price that we in Europe are used to paying all the time.

Many US sellers on eBay ship worldwide. (Here they are.) I don't know why anyone in Europe will pay such prices. That is a $1,200 bass these days, add $300 shipping (ouch!) and 15% V.A.T and you end up paying $1,725. Why pay $3K for a run-of-the-mill Jetglo late-70's 4001?

Nice bass, not mint but nice condition.

3K.. :!: :!: :!: That is just crazy. I don't think the deal will go through.

I agree with Mark, this is too good to be true.

A $1200 bass costs us a lot more than $1700 by the time it has been imported to the UK from the USA. Here in the UK we pay 24% import taxes (17.5% VAT and then 4% duty on the gross amount (including the shipping and the duty - yes we pay tax on the tax!). We also have to pay the courier $26 for the privilege of collecting the tax.

So importing isn't as cheap as you first think. Take into account the risk of it arriving damaged (the buyer has no claim on the insurance as the insurance contract is between the seller and the insurance company - I know, I've been there!) or the seller doing a runner with your money (which now isn't covered by a credit card fraud refund guarantee if you pay with Paypal - yes, I've been there too!) and you find a lot of buyers would rather pay UK prices than take the risk.

"(which now isn't covered by a credit card fraud refund guarantee if you pay with Paypal - yes, I've been there too!) "? Peter, I sucessfully disputed an E-bay Paypal purchase about a year and a half ago directly through Visa. Have you seen anything in your cardholder's agreement stating they don't cover such claims? Sorry for going off topic.
