95 4003 White w/Black Trim: Value?

Post by brianeharmonjr »

I'm thinking about purchasing this bass from someone. It's a '95 4003 in White with black binding and hardware. It's missing the knobs and and the treble pickup cover, and the pickguard is kinda scratched up, but it also comes with a brand new pickguardian black pickguard. What would be a fair price to pay for such a bass? What is the current market value on one of these? I've seen some oldler white ones on ebay lately, but none this recent. If anyone has any info, please let me know.

Looks like a nice one, Brian. I think $1300 is just about on the money, but it could go either way.

Bright white ones like this are quite rare and tend to get higher prices when they show up on ebay. It seems like the 1992 and up white 4003's are stayer whiter than the previous generation, time will tell. For reference, I sold my 1997 bright white/BT about a year and a half ago (ebay) and it went for $1900. There have been a couple of whites since then that went around the 2K range. Don't forget that RIC discontinued white around 1999 and black trim around 2002. Of course if your seller doesn't know any of this......don't tell them..:) .

Well, I won't say how much he wants, but it is actually quite a bit less than $1300. I am definitely going to get it if I can swing it financially. If I do get it, I'll probably have to keep either it or my new 4003 MG and sell the other. If the deal goes down, I will post again with many pictures. It looks like it's going to be closer to x-mas before I can make it happen, but I plan on making it mine as soon as possible.

I think $1300.00 is a very low estimate for this bass. As stated above, bright white ones without the "mellow yellow syndrome" are few and far between.

If you can get it for less than $1300.00

I'd be knocking on his door right now.....

What it costs and what I'd pay (1300) can be 2 very different things.

Agreed Sean. :)

My first Rick back in the '70's was white. I've always wanted another, so the one I got was sitting pretty high on my G.A.S. list.

Here's a picture of the tailpiece. It doesn't seem to have much tail-lift, compared to most 4003s I've seen with black hardware. It looks like I'll be getting my hands on this beauty before the end of the year. Unless I like it more than my '07 4003 MG (unlikely), I plan on reselling it or preferably trading for another Ric guitar. So, if somebody's got something like a 320, 325, 660, 350, 650, or just about anything in a COY that they'd be interested in swapping for this bass, let me know what you've got.

Well, I just sold a guitar and sent the seller of the white 4003 a message. As soon as he gets back to me I will be sending him the fundage and then start counting the days until I receive it. As soon as it arrives I will post many pictures.

Cool! You better start learning those early Renaissance songs, Brian. A simple one to start with would be Ocean Gypsy off of Scheherazade and other stories.
