When you see prices like that you just have to wonder. No way it's real. There are other similar basses on eBay that the bidder could have bid on.

'I sucessfully disputed an E-bay Paypal purchase about a year and a half ago directly through Visa.'
Yeah, that was a year and a half ago, about six months ago I got a 'revised terms and conditions' notice through the post (as you frequently do get) and it said it there. I have also tried to claim since then and was told over the phone that I had to take the dispute up directly with Paypal as I was no longer covered for fourth party transaction disputes. So basically if you pay the seller directly with a CC you are covered but if you go through another party (e.g. Paypal) you can't claim unless your dispute is with that other party themselves.

Import fees are around the 27% here in Italy (VAT+customs)
nevertheless, 1800/2000 USD (+ domestic taxes) for a brand new 4003 shipped from the USA through ebay or similar (in a few days) may appears still cheaper than buying it through the official importer at 1600/1700 Euros after waiting months if not years for the colour/model you really want to put your order for
oh dear...post number 666 LOL

Well, no more Paypal purchases for me then. I suppose John Leftybass would agree given his recent purchase and our current situation.

Just following on... (for 'retailer' read 'any Ebay seller')

Which is taken from ...But when you pay via Paypal, or NoChex, or any of the others, you don't get the protections that apply to a direct credit card payment. The credit card company has no contract with the retailer, has no way of forcing a refund, and is not jointly liable for any missing, or unsatisfactory goods.
