My new 660/12 in Montezuma Brown

Post by toneman »

Got a new 660/12 from Mike Parks last week. This is the RIC of my dreams!! After I did a setup(lowered the string slots at the nut, adjusted the neck and action and intonation and put an old Sprauge .005 Bumblebee cap between the pu selector and bridge volume pot) and installed a set of Pyramid Gold's it sounds, plays and looks amazing. But really the sound and playability were the two major factors. The fact that it looks stunning is a big plus!
I needed a Ric 12-string that would travel easier than my 360V64/12 and this is it! I'm still in awe on how amazing this guitar is. even the guys in our band are trhilled with it and they're not an easy lot to impress.. Love that Montazume Brown!

Congratulations Don!

I was one of the guys who posted on voxtalks in your guitar hunt (I'm WoweeZowee there). I think the Montezuma Brown 660s are the prettiest ones I've seen.

I'm hoping to get my own 660/12 next month (unfortunately it probably won't be MB), but whatever it is, I'm sure it will look nice next to my Lennon Casino and my Burgandyglo 360.

I'll have to check your website to see if there are any pictures of it yet. I salute you on your taste in guitars! :D

Beautiful guitar Don.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Yeah, I love my FG 660/12 but the Montezuma Brown is the nicest I've seen, it might even tempt me to a trade if I found one I could play to see if it's nice as my FG,... congrats.

Hi Don,

It looks like we have 2 of the 4 Montezuma Brown 660/12s that were recently listed at the online Ric dealers. I got my 660/12 in MB from Pick Of The Ricks about a month ago. Mine was also made in July.

Does your guitar have the newer tuners? My tuners look like vintage style Klusons with oval metal buttons, but they have a Grover style screw-in bushing instead of a vintage style push-in bushing. I like the smoother operation of the newer tuners but miss the vintage appearance of the push in bushings.

I had no problems finding one in Fireglo(my personal fav RIC colour.. until now..), but when I saw the MB in this model I went.."that's it!". Stunning. The John Lennon guy that I play with(Tim Piper) is also another Ric lover. He was beside himself when he saw this. To quote him "I don't usually get too excited about guitars but this one is amazing".

That picture reminds me of one of those 50's Rickenbackers in the Smith book. That color is amazing.

Don,

In the picture that you posted of your 660/12 it looks like the pickups are mounted with rubber grommets instead of foam. Did you replace the foam or did it come with grommets?

Yeah, it has grommets. I replaced the foam rings with grommets. I don't like the foam with the Toaster pickups. Just doesn't look right as you have a guitar that was originally a 625/12 in the sixties and then put it back out with the wider neck for Petty and then call it a 660/12. to me it should have grommets.. but, that's just my tastes. I did play it last night with some friends and the guitar sounds just amazing and plays like a dream!!!!

It's dangerous for me to hang out here!

Don, your guitar has inspired me.

Here's my new 660/6 in mapleglo. I now have 1 less Stratocaster and ASAT, but I'm very happy!

Here's a picture taken with my phone camera:
