Hmm...First Rick was a 4003 in Midnight Blue (I think it was around 1987, I got it used) and the most recent was the Blue Boy 360 (August 2004, I think). In between is a 4003 Jetglo.

, followed a year and a half later by a special order 360 WB in AG Blue. I still have the latter, of course:paologregorio wrote:A slightly used but pristine(kept in a closet!)`79 JG 4001, purchased June 1983

My first was a 2003 360/12FG. In May of this year, I sold it to my friend who owns it to this day. I didn't like the narrow 24-fret neck. The 660/12 has suited me better!

Re: Poll: When Did You Acquire Your First Ric ....
Guess I'll finally get in on this...
My first was a used jetglo 320 (with an f-hole), bought in '81 from a guy who literally pulled it out from under his bed. Of course it had enough dust on the black case that made it look like a silver one.
Said he'd had it a few years, but never learned to play, and it was dead mint. $200! Sold it to a friend who needed a guitar 2-3 years later with the stipulation that I could buy it back when he needed money (which I knew would only be a matter of a short time). Of course, his house got broken into a few months later and it was one of the few things of value he owned, so it was stolen.
In the meantime, I never could afford a new Ric though I'd always wanted a 12 string since George and Jim (later Roger) started using them when I was 10-11 years old. Always looked and lusted though, but money was always an issue.
My latest (and only second ever Ric) is my '92 360/12V64 that I bought in late August/early September of '05. My Mom had passed away and I got an inheritance (solving the $$$ issues) around that time so my first thought was to get on the list for a C63 but I didn't want to wait. Almost bought a brand new 360/12 at a local store and that would've been good - but I knew I'd still be wanting the older style with toasters, binding, full inlays, and no pink overspray, etc. One day my wife says "After I get home from work, let's go get you that Ric" and of course I agreed.
But I got online that morning, found this used V64 exactly like I wanted, bought it, had it sent overnight, and was playing it by 9:30 a.m. the next morning. I really lucked out in a lot of ways. Actually, I think of it as a "last present from Mom."

Re: Poll: When Did You Acquire Your First Ric ....
I was playing on my first Ric in '74, a FG '64 1997RM that my cousin purchased new along with a b16a amp. He died in an auto accident in 1968 in Germany, and my aunt (God rest her soul) allowed me to be caregiver from the time I was old enough to bestow proper care upon it ('74-I was a frequent visitor when I was young). She lovingly allowed me to take possession of it in 1995 as she thought it was time for me to have it, with the precurser being that the instrument stays within the ownership of our family. My cousin has a sister who has three sons, though none of them play.
My latest acquisition is a '66 365MG, that is needing MAJOR work-it has no electronics or hardware, a seam split in the face of about 4 inches, and a seam split the entire length of the back. The luthier who works on my instruments took this guitar in as payment on another job, and has owned it for several years. He knows I love Ric instruments and allowed me to have it. He thinks he may have some of the parts for it, but is not sure-so we are in the middle of a searching mission so we can return this instrument to it's former glory!!!!

Summer 2007. 330 JG VP. A guy said he had a Ric he'd trade for a Les Paul - any Gibson Les Paul. So I went and bought a Les Paul Studio for $600 off Craigslist and made the trade. What a deal. I absolutely love that guitar.
Re: Poll: When Did You Acquire Your First Ric ....
The first, April, '94. A 360/12. The same 360 in my avatar. I've had a few others since. A couple are still with me, the rest have gone on to other homes.
Re: Poll: When Did You Acquire Your First Ric ....
Stan: I have always admired the deep tone of that mapleglo finish all dressed up in black trim. It looks much smarter to me than the white trim. Your avatar is, at the same time, striking and comforting. When I got my 350 I eventually changed the white guards to gold and black. I am hoping that RIC will one day have a BTOY, black trim of the year, event.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Re: Poll: When Did You Acquire Your First Ric ....
Thanks, Peter. There is a lot of character in the maple. My biggest fear is busting the R tailpiece, so I treat it very gently. Besides it being my first Rick, it is so perfect in its finish and set-up I will never part with it.
Re: Poll: When Did You Acquire Your First Ric ....
First one was a 1967 360-6, aquired sometime around 1978 after about a decade-and-a-half of envious drooling. Most recent is a beeauutiful Montezuma Brown 350v63-6 that I got (finally!) in January of '06.
I have purchased seven Rics, I still have them all, and I'll do everything in my power to keep it that way. I don't think they'll even be able to pry them from my proverbial "cold dead fingers". Perhaps I'll be buried with them so my kid can't sell them to you people!

Re: Poll: When Did You Acquire Your First Ric ....
Wow. I kept trying to remember the name of that place! I watched the store (a mega-store for its day) being built in the early '60s, as I took the Belmont Avenue bus home from my classes at St. Patrick High School. I was amazed at its size and modernity. When a typical Biasco sales insert came floating in with the Sun-Times one day a year or two later, I went there with my folks (I wasn't 18 yet) who signed for payments on my first Fender and first new amp--a '65 Oly White Mustang, and a Thomas Organ VOX Berkeley II solid state. I was baited-and-switched on the amp (I wanted a BF Bandmaster, and of course should have held out). I sold them both on about a year later. The Mustang was cool (I have another now), but of course known for its anemic pickups. Did anyone advise me that the Berkeley was a dreadfully-underpowered amp compared to its tube brother? I had the most underpowered rig on the planet.
I remember getting a really shafted feeling when I realized that I'd paid full retail, and friends were getting deals on similar instruments. Biasco was high-power, push hard, work the customer. I was 17 and very green.
Biasco are gone now, I understand. Good riddance...
