Kinda like buying a computer, new tv, or actually any new technology. You just decide now is the time and make the decision to acquire.

Ben, thanks for sharing and for the willingness to experiment and have fun with it.

And I like the bass but I love the look of the AMB!

Paul W and Dale F and Mark Arnquist will be getting a lot of inquiries about Amber Monty refinishes, I think.

Seriously though, it is a 4003 with checked binding. Proving the concept in theory that RIC can and has done this. Add this to the recent vintage tone circuit, walnut wings, and slim neck profiles. Color aside, I smell V68! :P

Except that it doesn't have full width neck inlays. Considering that RIC hasn't produced a bass in almost 35 year with this feature, there will need to be some possibly significant work on their part before this becomes an option.

I'm not 100% up on Rick's guitars, but don't they put full width inlays on the 660's?

Doing this on a bass can't be all that hard.

But remember that the work has already been done on the existing guitar models with full width inlays (660, 381, 360C). To implement this on a bass neck would probably mean quite a bit of CNC programming.

Checkered binding doesn't look right to me without 1/2" spacing. That's not to say that this isn't a cool bass! Just not for me.

A change like that in a cnc program should be a piece of cake. That's a pretty simple cut pattern.

I think JH has stated here that he wouldn't put the sparklies on a bass neck again as he was concerned about the full-width cut weakening the neck.

Damn. Too bad the checkered binding wasn't offered on the 75ths.
I'd still have mine. Maybe.

The checkerboard purfling DOES look good next to that DCM finish on the 660DCMs. I agree with you - it would have been absolutely stunning on the 4003DCMs too 8)
