Anyone tried slide on a ric?

Henri, I think you asked a very good question. Different manufacturers' guitars play very differently, in a lot of ways. In any event, it's fun to discuss anyways.

I like low action on all my axes, so that prevents using the slide (unless I want to ding up the frets and neck).

I think slide players in general like higher action on the neck on any guitar. I'm no slide player, but I did successfully use a slide on the one tune I mentioned earlier. Newer Ricks have a flatter radius, which should pose no problems for slide playing, and a more radiused neck in and of itself would not preclude the use of slide, as the earlier Fender necks from the `50s had a more radiused fretboard and a lot of players used a slide on those guitars.

Hmm, now I want to go buy another slide and try it out on my Rick.

If my memory serve me right, Matt Hill of Hautewerk was using a slide with a 660/12 at the Rickenbacker's 75th Anniversary HOB show.

I don't think that the question was "can you..." but more what does it sound like. A Ric can be a pretty unique sound, so it follows that the question is pretty reasonable, no?

The eBow sounds tops on a Ric, but for me it's difficult to know when to stop using it...lovely.

One thing you may be forgetting is that Ricks have quite a curve to the necks and strings. Slide is a lot easier on flatter string setups ...

Actually, in my mind, with normal tuning slide would be easier on a curved neck.
Less likely to hit other other strings.

That's one way to look at it, but when an experienced slide player gets going, his muting technique is so good that it'd actually be harder to single out each string with the slide.

Properly playing slide, and the easier way, is to simply mute all the strings you don't want ringing out with your free palm and fingers. trying to single out a string will cause buzzing, unmelodic vibrations, and a pain in the bleep.

I use a glass bottleneck and an E-bow with the 350 and tried them both with the the 660/12 - slide good, E-bow not so good. I tried a steel slide and an aluminum slide but the Ric toasters are pretty bright (say compared to a P90 equipped guitar). So I prefer the glass.

I like the E-bow with and without the slide withthe 350V63. I use this combination with a Whammy pedal when trying to handle the synth solo parts in Frankenstein (we play this without a keyboard player, and as a trio drums-bass-Ric 350 or 660/12 depending on mood). I love the tone of the E-bow and slide on the neck p/u with the tone rolled right off. Very fat and slick.

I like the sound of a ceramic slide, but I mostly just use my 650C (a little higher action) for electric slide work.

I play slide sometimes. I have a light touch and have never marred a fret or fretboard.

Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers has used his custom 350 for slide. Notably on the "Take the Highway" VHS performance of "Into the Great Wide Open".

660 @medium action in neck or bridge pickup + ceramic slide = slide heaven. => sold p-90 gibson blueshawk and 70's telecaster. 660 beats them both it is great guitar for slide.
